Spicy yet smooth. Brewed with 10 exotic spices.
This beer's roots are in Belgium, and the classic Wit biers produced by Belgium's brewers. The style gets its name from the white, milky appearance of this unfiltered wheat ale. The brewers of Samuel Adams® beer, taking inspiration from the Belgians, have created a classic of their own. On the malt side, we use malted two row Pale barley, malted wheat, and Munich malt to give this beer a crisp, malty, cereal finish and smooth mouth feel. The hops used are Noble Tettnang Tettnanger hops. At the end of the kettle boil, we add a proprietary spice blend to give Samuel Adams® White Ale a unique and complex flavor, without being overpowering or cloying. The spice blend includes orange and lemon peel, dried plum, grains of paradise, coriander, anise, hibiscus, rose hips, tamarind, and vanilla. It is this special blend of spices that gives Samuel Adams® White Ale its unique character, complexity and refreshing drinkability. The beer is coarse filtered, leaving a white haze from the malt proteins. Our proprietary top fermenting ale yeast ferments the beer, imparting its signature character - bright and slightly fruity.

Draught Hazy orange beer with no head to speak of. Spicy, garden herbs but not specially coriander; fresh-smelling, some malt rather than wheat. Coriander, pepper, clove, some bubblegum, very estery, and again fresh-tasting. Some fatty acids, too, ’t would seem, as they also appear in the mouthfeel. Light to medium bodied. Typical Americn wheat, halfway between Be and Ge. OK.

Pours hazy gold – orange with off white head. The aroma is sweet sugary malts, mild banana-bubble gum, tartness, apples, noble hops, grainy malts but overall kind of mild in strength. The nose seems to have a lot going on. The taste has notes jumping all over the place, a bit jumbled and on the bright side. I get sweet malts then grainy malts while lemon, faint banana, apples and spices seem to be attacking the maltiness from above. Toward the finish I get notes of creamed corn that seem a bit out of place.

Foamy, white head with a slightly hazy, deep gold body. Good Lacing. Coriander, honey aroma with some wheat. Same of the taste, although pretty flavorless. Watery and a bit too fizzy. Not a great wit.

Hazy, light orange colur. Fresh, zesty aroma. Flavour is more akin to a German style "Hefe" than a Belgian "Wit" coming from the hint of sweetness and orange peel.

First rating(Draught at Bishops Arms, Västra Hamngatan, Göteborg) On March 10, 2008. Clear golden color, fluffy lasting meringue colored head. Lemon, fruity and malty taste, also metallic. Fruity, sweet candy and a bit hoppy scent, rather weak all in all. Spritzy mouthfeel, low bitterness. Sweet and metallic aftertaste. It’s almost as if it is watered down. It gets a bit better when warming up, both scent and taste gets fruitier. Light aromas of wheat, lemon and spice. Hazy golden color with a decent white head that tries to lace. Medium body with sharpish, near creamy carbonation. The flavor is wheat, lemon, citrus peel, cardamom(?), other stuff(?). It is a bit bland, other than the carbonation. Doesn’t come across as clean as many wits. A bit underflavored.

12 oz bottle. Pours unfiltered orange with creamy white head. Orange/citric sweet aroma. Mildly citrus flavoured with wheat notes. Quite different belgian white, almost a fruit beer. Very soft mouthfeel. Mellow finish, quite enjoyable.

Bottle: Poured a hazy amber color with a nice thick creamy head. Aroma was a wheat and citrus. Taste was smooth and not overwhelming very malty with wheat.

bottle. Poured a very murky orange/gold color. medium white head. the aroma was of wheat and citrus. the taste was similar to blue moon with a spicy aftertaste. a very good sam adams.
