Deep crisp amber and copper coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of sticky and caramelised sugars with a light dose of toffee, some earth, a bit of nuts and a fairly large malt presence around. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong nutty and herbal flavours at first that show some rice and off/specialty grains around the edges with a touch of nutty and earthiness, but all finishing with some good and fairly well-defined caramel and sugar sweetness with a bit of nutty flavours towards the finish with a little bitterness, but all derived from sugar and malts. Aftertaste shows the grainy and sticky malt qualtities with only a handful of other flavours noticeable with some light toffee, subdued rice and earthy nuttiness at the end, but finishes a bit subdued and mild. Overall, a nice enough alt, and showing enough style-specific qualities, where this is passable for sure, especially considering the place and country of origin- this isn't a bad option at all. I sampled this 350 mL can purchased from World Liqour Mart here in Daimon, Tokyo, Japan for 288JPY on 03-August-2019 sampled two days later here in my hotel room in Tokyo, Japan on 05-August-2019.

Can from Daiei in Himonya for the trip home afterwork. Drank straight from the can. Light caramel malt aroma with some candy sugar on the nose. Taste is similar but sweet on the palate. Fairly bland overall, but drinkable. Finish is kind of dry and lingers a little. --- Beer merged from original tick of Alt (赤ビール) on 26 Jun 2015 at 00:08 - Score: 5

350 ml can from Shinshu Osake Mura @ Shinbashi. Pours clear amber with a large frothy head - that disappears in seconds. Aroma is quite sweet, malty, with a sour plastic note. Taste has some carbonation, caramel malt, mildly bitter touch, relatively short aftertaste. It leaves mouth dry but no lingering taste at all. Not bad (or not enough taste, so it doesn’t taste bad) but not really interesting at all.

Canned, from Tokyo Station (Daimaru and Hasegawa Liquors), Tokyo. Clear pale amber, small head. Fruity nose with slight bubblegum and earth. Mid sweet with light body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Bread and blueberry. Low bitterness.

Can also from Le Collier in Tokyo station. It pours into a flute a nice clear amber with a thick foamy beige head. The aroma’s interesting it makes me think of cheesecake or an egg tart that mix of caramel/butterscotch. Definitely more butterscotch than caramel, but it does have some almost chemical notes around the edges which detract from the aroma. The body is on the thin/watery side while the flavor is candy like caramel sweetness with no real hop presence. Drinkable enough but too sweet, much better than that horrible "dark" beer I had from one of their weird frosted bottles. I think I will stick to the cans with these guys, green bottles are too likely to get lightstruck.

Can from La Collier. Fruity, malty nose, caramel, cherry, spices somewhat candy-like. Glowing orange-amber with lace. Sweet, caramel and candy malt flavor. Very lightly hopped. Also, the malts are not terribly convincing. All-malt, it says, but it tastes thin. Drinkable, but not very nice. Sweet and simple.
