In the mid 1800’s the Viennese had something new to brew as lighter styles of beer were popping up all over Europe. They created what is now know as Vienna malt, the amber malt was stewed after the barley was sprouted, this converted some of the malt starches into sugars, which were then caramelized by a gentle roasting. Our Vienna Lager is brewed with half Vienna malts creating a delicate malt aroma with a slightly caramelized and toasted malt character. Light Bronze in color with a slight bitterness, this beer finishes clean and crisp! Original Gravity 12.5 Plato.

Draft pour pint enjoyed at Special Brews. A clean caramel amber appearance with active carb and patchy foam head. Somewhat rich bready malt aroma, mild, some spices. Really easy drinking lager full of bready malts that lean both sweet and rye like spicy. Cool and flavorful lager. Soft toast like finish. Really well put together brew here.

Deep amber, fast fading head. Medium bodied, light earthy malt profile. Not much here

A deeper golden with a nice head. Slightly chewy body. Full of toasted and slightly fruity with a good light spicy hop bite. Clean and crisp throughout. I could live on this.

On tap at Chuckanut, pours a war golden bronze with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out toasted nuts, bready malt, and a touch of overripe fruits. Flavour is along the same lines, with dry bready caramel malts, a touch of banana and some overripe fruits. Very malt-forward. Solidly made for the style.

On tap at the Dig Bar American craft event. My hat’s off to you Catfish! A great looking ruddy amber pour with a malty caramel aroma. Med-full bodied with a slightly rough mouthfeel. The taste is caramel malts, cinnamon & biscuit. Pretty good, I just wish the mouthfeel was smoother/softer.

Draft - Sweet grains on the nose. Clear copper with a rich beige head. Tastes of grains and a out of balanced sweetness for my taste. Clean finish. Not my style.

Draught at CBB. Nice caramel malt nose, rich and thick. Very malty flavor of sweet caramel. Soft, full mouth. Fruity, with cherries. A tasty beer with great malt, though a bit one-dimensional.

Light copper color. Nice frothy white head. Very clean malty nose with notes of mineral and bread. Very nice clean malty mouth with bread and caramel. Light body, light to moderate amounts if bitterness. Very well executed. Nice bready hoppy finish. Beautifully crafted.

Draught at the brewpub
Amber color, hazy. Nice malt aroma, with some cereals. Smooth and lean mouthfeel; some malt, honey and cereals. Correct bitterness. Overall, it’s easy but elegant.
Not really a Vienna, but still a good showcase for German malts.
