Bottle. Dark amber color. Grassy oily hoparoma with grapefruit. Oily hay-like hopflavor with notes of red berries. Relatively soft, yet a firm and long lasting bitterness. Hints of rubber and yeast in the aftertaste. Friendly yet firm and slightly alcoholic DIPA.

On tap at Uiltje Bar. Murky orange colour, off-white head. Aroma of orange peel, sweet, sugar, blood orange, yeast, plastic, light floral. Flavour is sweet, orange, blood orange, yeasty, lots of plastic, herbal, bitter. Medium bodied. Not the best batch I'm afraid.

Draught sample at CBWF 2016. Hazy, amber-golden colour with a thin, off-white head. Fruity aroma with citrus, floral hops, caramel malts, toasted notes and subtle grapefruit. Taste is bitter. Medium to full body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes dry and bitter with citrus fruits and toasted notes. Lingering exotic fruits. Nice, straightforward IIPA.

Danish DIPA with a fairy tale-themed label on a 50 cl bottle. Medium thick, moussy, egg-white, lightly lacing, fairly stable head, warm orangey golden robe, practically clear with lively sparkling, turning hazy and somewhat amberish with yeast sediment added. Pleasant aroma, a bit less aggressively hoppy than many other double IPAs perhaps, but still ’dank’ and fragrant with hints of tangerine, biscuit, orange peel, hemp, bell peppers, dried flowers, bitter honey, chicken spices, pine resin, overripe papaja, cigarette tobacco, braised pork, pink pepper, old cake. Crisp and lively yet clean onset, fruity with hints of green banana, raw pineapple and sourish redcurrant, nicely paired with a kind of orange peel freshness; fiercely but at the same time ’finely’ tingling carbo enlightens an otherwise smooth, oily, slick body. Lean, subtly biscuity malt sweetness acts as a perfect balance for a gradually strengthening, long-stretched, deeply but at the same time quite softly bittering hop finish, peppery and grapefruity, with lovely dank retronasal aromas of citrus peel and pine. The drying effect of this firm hop character fits nicely with juicy biscuity malt sweetness at the very end, accompanied by a chest-warming, ’friendly’ but unmistakable, gin-like alcohol effect. Exemplary: for a style defined by its inherent ’extremity’, Hornbeer managed to keep it elegant and noble, yet powerful and bold at the same time. I love this.
