++++ RE-RATE 28 September 2011 ++++
.5L Okterbest stein. Pour is slight haze golden copped with a frothy one inch white head. Aroma is bready, grass, light malt sweetness. Perhaps a touch of clove, though that is really faint. Taste is the grassy mildly sweet malt, balanced with the yeast and showing a nice hop brightness. Really bright, clean and tasty. The palate is medium bodied, unfiltered mouth feel, bright carbonation and a clean finish. Nice Oktoberfest, and the best GB beer I have had, much fresher and cleaner that when I last rated - body held up much better. (7,4,8,4,14 - 3.7)

.5L draft at the Gordon Biersch location in concourse D of the Cleveland airport. Pour is minimally hazed dark copper, rust brown with a 1/2 tan head. Aroma is straw and caramel sweet0 malt. Classic Oktoberfest nose, though somewhat muted. Taste is the nose, clean sweet caramel malt and straw, with a dull finish. Palate is medium to thin, though gets a touch watery towards the finish. Nice enough, though a bit on the light side for the style. This actually made it quite easy to drink. (6,4,7,4,13 - 3.4)

Location: We have a bunch of these in the metro DC area, I think I’ve prob been to 3 of them, including the one in "Downtown Rockville" that I visit pretty often, I’ve had this one on tap there, specifically enjoyed quite a few these that first fall when the Rockville one opened...
Overall Impression: I think is probably the best thing I’ve had from GB, it’s a really sold example of the style (where as most of their beers are average or sub par for their respective styles). It’s a nice enjoyable beer for the Oktoberfest season.

Bottle from Total Wine in Roseville. Orangey color with a decent beige head. Smells lightly spicey. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is malt with spicey hop. Not a bad beer.

Tap (Honolulu). Sweet caramel and barley malt aroma. Amber color with nice head. Sweet caramel and barley malt flavor with a moderate hops finish. Very nicely made - as good as anything you’d drink in Munich.

Cloudy beige with a thick head. Fresh toasty nose with light yeastiness. Kellerbier accented. Very toasty on the palate with light yeast notes, maybe a hint of phenols. A little overcarbonated, like they all seem to be at the Miami location. Doesn’t quite come together beyond that little bit of fresh toastiness.

Bottle. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Spice, earth, and malt aroma. Spice, earth, and light caramel flavor. Medium body. Mineral, caramel, and spice linger - not as much caramel as many octoberfests.

Draught at the brewpub, Washington DC
Golden color. The aroma is too simple. Some sweetish malt flavor. Too easy.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with a thin off-white head. Aroma of malt, some caramel and little else. Light-bodied; Small cardboard flavour with some mild german hops, some caramel and a mild malt taste. Really nothing to speak of in the aftertaste either. Overall, not a great beer at all. Not what I was expecting for the season, but that was tasted as the Marzen (which is offered regularly?) instead. I sampled this on draught on 29-September-2004 at the brewpub on 9th & F in Washington, D.C.

Sampled draught at Gordon Biersch, Burbank.
Hazy pale orange. Fairly sweet. Medium bodied. The malt character is somewhat soft and chewy, but the beer is on the neutral side. Low bitterness. This is maybe the only American true-to-style oktoberfest beers I have, and it is not a bad one, but I’d like to see even more malty mouthfeel, and definitely more buttery malt flavour.
