Pours espresso brown with coffee ice cream-colored head. Gives off a strong coffee nose and tastes slightly smoky and malty with a dry-roasted coffee aftertaste.

Draught at the brewpub. Near black. Earthy and roasty. Dryish with soft mouthfeel and medium body. Notes of coffee before a salty, lighly tarry finish. Uncomplicated, but very good.

[At GABF 2004] A hazy brown beer with a small disappearing off-white head. The aroma contains notes of honey and rosehips - not suiting for the style - rather a mead - but still OK. The flavor is slightly roasted, which gives it a dry end, but the body is thin. Just not enough of the good stuff.

22oz Bottle Pours almost black. Thick creamy head. Aroma is of grapes, coffee, molassas. Quite sweet. Taste is sweet, soft and rich. Dark roasted grain, chocolate and molassass. Soft carbonation and the feel is very fine and smooth. Lingering smokey flavor. I am a fan of the style and this is one of my faves. Delicious.

As black as I've seen on a porter, quite smooth, and powerfully roasty......
