12oz bottle pours ruby red to amber with tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some sweet malts, roasted malts, sweet nuttiness and a dash of chocolate malts. Pretty nice. The taste is pretty darn sweet for the style, I think, with sweet malts, some honey like notes and then a bit of carbonation enhanced roasted malts astringent tart notes.

This brew pours a clear chestnut brown color with a medium foamy beige head that dissipates slowly to a film. Rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and nuts. Light body with a sweet roasty character of malt and nuts. SLight hops in the background. The finish is short and leaves and earthy malt aftertaste. Pretty average overall.

Draught at the bar and food joint in Detroit airport. Butterscotch and caramel nose, with grains, brown sugar, and some diacetyl too. Roasty grain flavor, caramel, brown sugar, ok bitterness. Decent, but nothing special.

Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear dark brown color with a big beige head, pretty nice lacing. Nice aroma of chocolate, nuts, light roastiness and hints of coffee. Sweetish flavor, a bit roasty, with caramel, nuts, some coffee (slightly green-ish) and notes of toasted bread and chocolate. Medium-bodied. Not bad.

This brown ale poured a a light brown colour with a very light, tan coloured head. Scents include brown sugar, molassass, and a slightly nutty scent. First sip was smooth but slightly watery. flavours of slightly roasted malt, molassass, ripe fruit and caramel. Finish is nutty and sweet with a thick mouthfeel.

August 2009 Beer of the Month Club , 9/8/09

Aroma: Caramel, nutty, sweet malts, some funky/rotting fruit, and a bit of coffee, nose improves as it warms
Appearance: Dark Caramel/Brown color, thin, lasting off-white head
Flavor: I get bready, nutty, and caramel malts, and a sweetness that is similar to the funky fruit in the nose
Palate: Smooth, not too heavy, solid mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Granted the nose is a little weird, and this beer is really a little too sweet, but I liked the way it works. Nice fruity character, and an unexpected complexity make this one a truly interesting beer in my opinion. Nicely done, I'm surprised at the overall low rating.

Bottle. Pours a transparent and reddish brown with a couple of fingers of beige head. Aromas are decent enough: a mix of nuts, earth, caramel/toffee. Flavor is much better than expected given the ratings. A nice mix of the above aromas with a little bit of a thinness to it, but still, this is good.
