Tap at Gar Eden. Dark brown colour, with golden creamy head. Aroma is nice and roasty, touch of sweetness. Taste is coffee, cream, vanilla, bit fruity too, bit burnt, kola kubes. Pretty nice. Quite smooth. Slight bitterness at end.

Bottle. Black with a tan head. Aroma is roasty with mocha that’s more dark chocolate than coffee, cream. Medium bodied, mouthfilling enough for me. Smooth with low carbonation but a slightly minerally feel means it’s not silky or creamy. Coffee is more prominent in the taste but there’s firm roast, light spices and good chocolate. A little licorice. Fairly high bitterness for this sort of thing. Pretty good.

Bottle pours out a dark brown almost black topped with a small head. Nose is ash roast malts and a nice touch of smoke. Taste is as the nose with a touch of smoke and a good roast.

330ml bottle from Liquors Hasegawa in Tokyo. Poured into an English tulip pint. Dark black with a thin tan head. Strong bitter coffee aroma present with a bit of burnt smell. Dry as a bone on the palate with more bitterness and burnt coffee coming through. Not really that interesting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Stout on 09 Aug 2015 at 23:01 - Score: 5

Bottle at the 5th Annual Epic Beer Tasting in Richmond, VA, November 28, 2010. Pours nearly black with ruby highlights. Large tan frothy head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malts with a sweet finish. The taste is very dry roasted malts, smoke and caramel. Very strongly carbonated. Medium bodied. Nice.

Bottle. Pours black with foamy tan head. Nose of barley, turpentine and grassy yeast. Taste is grass, tin can, hops, malt, stale coffee and lemongrass. I guess it is supposed to be a stout.

Bottle from Ledgers Liquors. Pours dark, but it’s ruby where the light comes through. Head is a huge 4+ finger tan - see the picture! Aroma of smooth burnt toast. Not the harsh version. Medium body with lots of frothy carbonation. Flavor is pretty hoppy over dark burnt malt - but smooth - not at all harsh. It finishes more chocolate than not. Coffee pops out after awhile.
