Flora is the wine barrel-aged version of Florence, our grandfather’s sister, as well as the name of our Farmstead® wheat ale. In her honor, we fill French oak wine barrels with Florence and allow the beer to mature in the presence of our resident microflora. After extended aging, a beautifully complex beer emerges; Florence becomes Flora.

Thanks for sharing tderoeck! 750 ml. bottle sampled @ ACBF 2015. Batch #1. Murky golden. Nose is thick lactic with some vanilla, oak, malt sweetness; Taste is sweetish peach yeast, some sweetness, vanilla, mellow funk, very mellow tart. Low carbonation. Feels like it has been open a bit too long. Not optimal but quite nice all the same.

5/III/15 - 75cl bottle @ Drunken Driver's tasting (home) - BB: n/a, 2011 vintage (on cap) (2015-265) Thanks to Amy for giving me this bottle!

Clear pale yellowish beer, creamy irregular white head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit funky, sourish, musty, spicy, some coriander, floral, bit sweet. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: very sourish, lemony start, little bitter, bit oxidized, sherry notes. Aftertaste: some cardboard, little funky, aged, bit thin, oxidized, sherry again. Too old or too barrel aged?

2013 bottle thanks to Will. Pours a cloudy yellow orange with small frothy white head that lasts leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong white wine, oak, and biscuit dough. Thin mouthfeel with nice tart white grape, funk, light dry finish. Really enjoyed this.

750 ml bottled in July 2013, batch 5. Perfect crystal clear gold pour with correct level of carbonation. Aroma is indeed white wine with a wheat note underneath.

Flavor is dry white grapes in the front of the sip with the Florence wheat base. For me personally Florence is my favorite HFS brew. This puts that base beer into another tier of flavor. Dry white grapes, light oak funk, wheat and a nice mellow tartness makes this a perfect summer brew. Simply fantastic, no need to ramble on. Like white wine? Like wheat based brews? This is a great marriage of the two.

Bottle shared at the 2014 tasting in the Cellar of Moeder Lambic Saint-Gilles. Pours cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma of soft Bretty funk, citrus fruits, peppery saison yeast. Flavor is light sweet and light moderate sour with orange peel and vinous aspects in the palate. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

From Saturday'a tasting. Batch 5. Light wheat aroma with soft fruit and phenolic notes. Fruit was citrus and phenolics were pepper and coriander. Yoghurt like acidity and light lactic notes. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a small white head that showed good retention and moderate lacing. Flavor was fairly tart with some light yoghurt and lactic acid character. Medium citrus notes with some light wheat character. Light phenolics. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low acidic astringency and low alcohol warmth. Tart but also some creaminess from the wheat. Overall a fairly nice, tart saison. The tartness kind of hides the water qualities that I think make the saisons so special, but it also adds a nice complexity to the beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared, unclear of the batch number. Pours with a clear yellow hued body with a small white head. Aromas are of tropical fruit, funk, floral, white wine, chamomile, lightly zesty and grainy. Bone dry, medium phenol. Flavors are of tropical fruit, chardonnay, toasted oak. Nicely funk phenols and esters, bone dry. Lively carbonation. My only complaint is a slightly overbearingly tannic finish.

Bottle shared by Kyle, thanks! Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice funk note with light sweet fruit and light grains. Flavor has light funk and light sour fruit with some underlying earthy grain and grass.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a medium white head and loads of orange sediment. Aroma of white wine barrels, barnyard funk and a bit of brett, though certainly dominantly characterized by the wine barrels. Flavour mirrors this, with a dominating white wine barrel presence, some tangy tartness, a little wheat and some yeast. Very vinous, with loads of depth. Highly drinkable and complex. Most excellent.
