500ml bottle. Clear, reddish dark brown colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, ochre head. Minimally roasty dark malty aroma, hints of roasted grain, a touch of treacle, minimally grassy hoppy overtones. Taste is dry dark malty, slightly roasty, subtle sweetness, cautious hints of treacle, bitter hoppy overtones. More than just OK.

Bottle: Clear, ruby-amber coloured, bigger and very slowly collapsing loose white head, mild to moderate dry toasty-caramelly nose, some fruitiness detectable; light bodied and soft; a malty bitterness is added in the slightly lingering and moderately dry toasty-caramelly finish. Nice Schwartzbeer…

bottle from a small Getränkemarkt in Weißig. Clear deep brown colour (not black), mid-sized beige head. Aroma of cocoa powder, walnuts and caramel. The malty background is not sweet, rather dry with hints of cocoa powder, shy hints of caramel and walnut. Shy hop flavours tune in towards the finish.
