Ok, so they used to call this just Monteith’s Doppelbock (7%) then it became Monteith’s Doppelbock Winter Ale (6%) now it’s back to Monteith’s Doppelbock but it’s still 6%. Alles klar? 330ml bottle into schooner glass. Light chocolate nose. Mahogany red beer with thin white head. Laces well. Light body, chocolate taste and finish. A little sour late on. Unspectacular but easy drinking (especially for 6%!).

Pours a rather dark brown color, topped with a small and lasting tan head. There is a strong and very pleasant chocolate aroma. Delicious. The taste starts slightly sweet and chocolatey, some roasted malts and finishes with a little bitterness. creamy and tasty.

Bouteille. ruby-amber coloured, smaller and stable off-white head; toasty-nutty nose, not too sweet, very faint metallic traces detectable; moderate sweet and (malty-)bitter flavour, baraly full bodied; a tinge of molasses is detectable in the dark-malty a caramelly and bitter finish. A pleasant, easy-drinking Doppelbock...

(bottle, 33cl) Clear, ruby brown colour with a beige and short foamy head. Dark malty, slightly roasty aroma with notes of caramel, also hints of chocolate and anise. Moderately sweet and slightly roasty bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Earthy dark malt character with roasty notes, caramel and a tinge of chocolate and a very subtle dried fruity touch; sweet and mildly roasty bitter finish with lasting notes of caramel and a whiff of chocolate. Likeable as it is not too fat and not too sweet. 02.VI.14

330ml bottle. Clear mahogany colour with small to average, thick, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Chocolatey dark malty aroma, hints of milk chocolate and husk, a hazelnut touch. Taste is nuttily dark malty, notes of hazelnut, a touch of milk chocolate; dry finish. Relatively light, Brown Ale-resemblance, nice.

Clear deep red beer, short pale tan head. Smooth dry palate. Slightly spicy malt and err a dry finish! That’s about it! Pretty dull!
