Bottled (thanks to my parents). Deep golden colour, small white head. Aroma is floral, fruity, some grassy and cardboardy tones. Flavour is grains, malts, hops, some alcohol and mild herbal tones to it. Kind of bulky, as expected.

Many thanks for this beer to kevnic2008. Piwo z minimalna piana, jasna barwa znikomym zapachu. W smaku syropowate, wodniste, lekka gorycz, slodowosc srednia, wyczuwalny w niewielkim stopniu etanol. Draznilo mnie to. Przy malym procencie wogole nie udało się go ukryc. Proste piwo, nie dla mnie. Naciagana szkolna dwoja

The bières de garde of northwestern France are well known, but it is a lesser known fact that the Alsace region of northeastern France historically also belongs to the ’beer belt’. This is a not so traditional example, a strongish lager with an irregular, lacing, rather unstable, pale yellowish beige head and a beautifully deep orange golden colour with a steady column of bubbles rising up from the bottom of the glass. Sweetish, grainy aroma of caramel candy, dry cookies, old cake, minerals, sugar corn, grass, some vague banana, wet cloth and wet cardboard. Crisp onset, low in esteriness as expected from a lager, sweet and pure barley taste, a bit toasted, minerally and a little bit metallic, with a hint of grassy hops in the finish; a faint touch of warming alcohol appears as well. Malt sweetness remains the last impression after swallowing but the hops do what they are supposed to do, in establishing a gentle, grassy and little bit spicy, but also somewhat vegetable-like bitterness to accompany the malt sweetness. I am not the greatest fan of strong pale lagers, they are usually way too sweet, bland and alcoholic, but here the sweetness feels natural (as in: pure barley) and the alcohol remains more or less in place; this is a good example of a bad style, in my opinion.

33cl bottle from a UK Aldi: poured into a Chimay chalice at home on 24th June 2015. Clear light amber/gold with a full but thin white crown. Smells like those high alcohol tinned lagers, tastes of headaches! This is ’brown paper bag’ on a park bench sort of stuff: not good. Body and flavours so weak I thought the ABV would have been higher than 6.1% by it’s basic alcohol noticeability.

330ml bottle from Aldi - Amber coloured body with slight white head. Bit of rice, chewed paper in the nose. The taste is smooth but unremarkable. It doesn’t have any bitterness or aftertaste which is nice, but it is somewhat lacking in flavour. Bit dull really.

Bottle. Aldi. 99p. Clear gold. Thin, white head. Fruity, sweet malt. A bit grassy. Bit of cardboard. Taste is sweet. Light bitterness. Fairly smooth. A bit flabby. Finishes bittersweet, the emphasis being on the sweet.

Bottle 330ml (Saveur)
Clear deep golden color, small white head. Fruity honeyish aroma with some grass, metal and cardboard. Light to medium-bodied. Malty, grassy hoppyness, some alcohol. Fruity notes similar to many biere de gardes. Not outstanding nor very interesting.

Klare goldene Farbe, geringe weiße Schaumkrone, viel Kohlensäure. Geruch kräftig malzig, süß, getreidig. Geschmack sehr malzig, grasig, leicht metallisch, muffig, nicht gut!
