White oak is native to North America and typically contains a higher vanillin content than its European counterpart, which has a strong influence on the flavour of whatever comes into contact with it once it's made into barrels.

Our white oak is air-dried for 24 months before before it's made into casks and then charred to create a natural barrier between the spirit and the very heavy, virgin vanilla flavour that's locked within the grain of the wood. It's only at this point that our beer would come into contact with it either as a cask or as chips in our Oakerators®.

Malt: I & G ale malt, Malted Wheat & Lager Malt
Hops: Super Styrian & Fuggle

Maturations: Over bourbon-infused oak heartwood in our Oakerators®

Finishing Touch: Infused with dried bergamot and blood orange oil to create a fragrant and refreshing finish.

Bottle from Tesco; clear golden yellow pour with a thin white head, aroma has some clove and fresh lemon, taste lemon cordial, spice, some banana, floral action, a hint of plastic, if beer was a cordial it would probably taste like this.

Bottle. Nose is soap, lemon, wheat, very very fain hint of orange - I’d not have got it without being signposted. Taste has I&G’s ersatz oak aging taste which is cloying and accompanying faked vanilla taste leads, moving to light wheat then banana, a hint of bubblegum and the very faint orange note and a cloying spice and vanilla finish. It has all the problems one associates with I&G, which dominates the rest of the seasoning. Edit: This beer is one of those that takes awhile for it’s true qualities to emerge, by the end of the glass I was finding it syrupy and cloying with a woozy nauseating effect from the spices. This went from poor to actively disgusting. Down rated.

Sample at Systembolaget. Clear golden with a white head. Quite soft with some light spices, wheat, citrus, vanilla and some typical oak. Drinkable but nothing to write home about.

Bottle from Tesco, Reading. Orangey gold in hue with a middling fizz. Oak and light vanilla overlay a citrussy beer with hints of wee. I’m normally a huge fan of I&G & still love their oaky vanilla signature in this beer, but even I have to admit it doesn’t go with the underlying beer. They do need to realise that barrel ageing doesn’t suit some styles, and this would seem to be one of them.

Bottle from Tesco, Enniskillen [060515]
Blonde, clear, frothy white head
Aroma of soft orange, soft bergemot, floral perfume, light aromatic, dab of peach, sweet fruits, no usual yukky I&G nose
Taste of soft sweet pale malts, light orange, apricot, soft floral, dab of alcohol, not quite as good as aroma
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, fairly sweet, not as sickly as usual for I&G. Finish - Touch of the oak chips that detracts TBH, soft sweet fruit
Overall - Better than most I&G beers I’ve had. Would be better without the oak chips

330ml bottle from Tesco - Clear golden body, thin white head. Nose is the usual Innis and Gunn vanilla, a bit of orange citrus, some herbs. Not the strongest aromas, but the taste is dominated by a syrupy orange zest, a bit of dried herbs, and a warming finish. A bit of a let down really, not sure what it was trying to be, but it certainly didn’t finish up as I was hoping it to be.

33cl bottle from Tesco’s, Camberley. Bright pale amber with a ring of white head; vanilla aroma; typical I&G oaky taste; with a sweeter finish, with perhaps a touch of orange mingling with the vanilla. No trace of the bergamot. Very similar to most other I&G beers.
