Bottle at the Offie, Leicester, drunk at home. Brown with hints of mahogany, translucent with a sizeable khaki/tan head. Smoked malt, pumpernickel, touches of liquorice and old-fashioned cough syrup. Sweet and smokey with a bit of bitter hop sticking to the finish. Chestnuts and horehound in the aftertaste along with a charred malt. Thin body but there's ample carbonation to hide it. Basic but decent.

„Frenzel’s Rauchbier“, Flasche (33 cl) vom Brauereistand auf dem Berliner Bierfestival. - Tiefbraun, fast schwarz. - In der Nase fülliges aber weiches Rauchmalz, Schinkenspeck, tiefes dunkles Malz mit leicht nussiger Karamelsüße, elegant hopfenwürzig-zitroniger Hopfen. - Antrunk weich dunkelmalzig mit nicht allzu kräftigen, gut eingebundenen Raucharomen, elegant durch frisch zitronigen Hopfen ausbalanciert. Gut rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang leicht salziger Schinkenspeck und milde Hopfenherbe. - Wer hätte gedacht, daß die Sachsen so ein gutes Rauchbier hinlegen können ...

0,33 l bottle and again out of a tremendous box from kappldav123. Thanks a lot! A very dark brown with reddish edges in the glass. Small beige head. Smoked bacon but also honey mustard sauce on the nose. Taste starts very smooth. Low to mid smokey, mid fruity, some malt in the background. Could get a little bit more power in my opinion.

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass dark brown, small head. Wonderful smokey aroma. Starts intense malty-smokey, some hints of bacon, wood. Fruity hints of plum. Finish milder, less smokey. Earthy-malty. Not bad.
