Translates as Divide & Conquer. This beer barrel aged for the good part of a year in a variety of peated whiskey barrels. Among others Port Charlotte and Bruichladdich. We also added the wild yeast Brettanomyces (aka brett) to the barrels to gain it's special effect to the beer.

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is roasted malt, strong peat, oak, dark chocolate, charred coal, smoke, leather. No Brett... Flavour is medium sweet and bitter. Body is full. Heavily charred with tons of peat, potent but a bit one-sided with its monster level peat.

Bottle: Pitch-black, pretty small tanned foamy layer, solid sweet nose of peaty or toasty malt, dried fruits and traces of mushrooms underneath, accompanied by a light acidity; moderate to solid sweet flavour, low bitterness, low acidity, nearly full bodied; lingering sweet toasty and mildly sourish finish with a mild alcohol-burn in the aftertaste. Surely interesting, unfortunately not my cup of tea...

To hell and back again… Complex and powerful beer. Smoke, fire, leather, licorice, coffee and asphalt are so overpowering this beer. Brett? No chance in the world that it is possible to detect that. Simcoe and Amarillo? Two solid nice hops drowned in hell Blofeld. Surely a well produced beer. And a beer many will like. Not my hellfire [Bottle from Vinmonopolet Aker Brygge in Oslo, Norway]

PD 12/01/17, BB 12/01/42;Definitely peat forward on the nose but in a smooth way, wood tannins, notes of iodine, smoked meat, smoke, toasted bread & crust, mild chocolate, underneath smooth dry fruits like dates, raisins & maybe a touch of cherries

Bottle. Blonde. Roast, smoke, lemon and soft bretty notes in the aroma and flavor. Malty sweet, drying up in the finish. Lemon. Onions. Some sourness. Complex. Full bodied. Good!

I can tell you right off that I appreciate the consistent quality of De Molen’s imperial stouts. Now I have Verdeel & Heers to sample. The 330 ml bottle was acquired on our late spring visit to the Netherlands and Belgium. The label determines bottling on 1/12/17 and an abv of 9.8%. A snifter is receiving the contents, I see a blacker than hell body followed by a thin skim of medium tan foam. Healthy carbonation. The nose is musky with some earthy, smoky notes. A drink of it, heavy with the smoke, charcoal, sour dough bread, a hint of strawberry jam and some small caramel sweetness. Very similar to Hemel & Aarde which I just tried this evening. I prefer a straight-up imperial stout but am not complaining. It is a big tent.

F: medium, tanned, quickly diminishing. C: dark to black, opaque. A: roasted malty, cocoa, peat, leather, bit nutty, bretty, bit chocolate, banana, T: thick roasted malty backbone, leather, bit brett, peat, chocolate, bit medicinal yet not in a disturbing way, cocoa, coffee, oily mouthfeel, it is one year old bottle only yet nice complex and enjoyable beer but if you like peated tones in, 33cl bottle from Malting Pot in Brussels.

Black with a brown head - Rosted smoked malt aroma - Malt body with smoke and wood flavours - The smoked roasted malt goes into the finish - This was just ok, a little to much smoke for my taste

'1/17 bottle. Black. Light tan fade to a bare coat. Aroma of mocha, carob, slightly plasticky vanilla. Medium bodied, moderate to low carbonation. More vibrant than suggested by the aroma: more brusque mocha, berries, citrus. Plastic/ peat notes set back. Not that sweet but nonetheless fudgey. There''s a little whisky but little sign of the brett. Pleasant enough.'
