Can from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark malt with lactose, fairly strong candy sugar, caramel, mild chocolate, notes of liquorice, and a hint of roast. Flavour is sweet with a little roasty bitterness. Body is medium. Decent, but a bit heavy on the candy sugar.

330ml can. Black with tanned creamy head, some retention. Aroma of malts, light-roasted, coffee, lactose. Quite sweet in flavour with a touch of caramel and lactose but more prominent is the coffee-dry-roastiness. Finish has a moderate bitterness with malt, nuts and salt. Moderate body and carbonation which is more wet than smooth on the palate although maybe a little chewy as part of the finish. Its a good beer, a little understated for a pastry stout, but that's better than it being overly rich in flavour.

Cask at Flowerpot, Derby (Bank Holiday Mini Fest) Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small beige head and good lacing. Nose is mainly milky coffee. In the mouth the first thing that catches the attention is the saltiness – though on the whole it is fairly sweet. The main taste is of milky coffee but with traces of tracle, toffee and peanuts plus some alcoholic strength. Finish is mainly roasted malts . A good boozy one for sipping slowly !

Third by cask, shared with Finn on the third day of GBBF Winter 20, Iron Bridge Bar. Jet black body, steady off-white head, fair lacing. Chocolate and dried fruity aromas, promising. Malt-driven taste, hints of choco-caramel backed with prunes, lactose backbone. Mid-sweet malt-fruity ending. Fine bodied. Likable. (Birmingham 06.02.2020).

Can. Brown-black. Restrained choc and caramel nose. Very lactose forward, yet somehow too thin. Not getting much salt. Would have liked some to cut through the sweetness and lift the flavours.
