Hoppy Birthday is known as “The world’s most celebrated beer.” A Pale Ale, it benefits from a heavy dose of dry-hopping and is truly a gift to the senses. This bold brew has an intense hop-bitterness, but the pine aroma is the star of the show.

Bottle from Total Wines, Sterling VA. Pale gold in colour, with a decent, white, head. Plenty of floral hops, tangerine and pineapple fruits, suggestion of pine, and crisp balancing malts, before a dry, hoppy finish. Excellent

Clear medium golden colour, tall foamy white head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma pale malts, grain, grapefruit, orange peel, pine. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, fruity, pine. Middle part fruity bittersweet, dry bitter finish, chalky notes, bitterness lingers on and on. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation, very good session IPA, well-balaced combination of fruity and bitter elements.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear amber pour with a frothy off white head, aroma has distinct pine, tangerine and some dank action, taste has big IBU bitter grapefruit, pine, clementine, some pale malts, which are well balanced, very hoppy onslaught of flavours, what’s not to like about this?
