Bevog Deetz is a pure refresher.

Its aroma of grapes, citrus, lime, passion fruit, fresh straw and light bready notes will make your nose and taste buds dance.

It is extremely drinkable, playful and never boring. Whatever the weather, place or occasion it surely fits and on a warm sunny day it will show you why it was made in the first place.

Austrian craft brewery stretching the limits of the classic Kölsch style by applying a more ’liberal’ hop profile to it, sounds interesting. Lacing, thick, moussy, egg-white, quite dense head over a lightly hazy yellow blonde beer with greenish hue. Pleasant and fragrant aroma of lemon zest, lime blossoms, sweet white grapes, raw pineapple, withering tulips, gooseberry, sourdough, sherry, fresh grass. Crisp onset, sweet fruitiness of pineapple, gooseberry, apple peel and a hint of banana, clearly more ester-forward than the regular Kölsch, spritzy and notably minerally carbo, lightly oily, smooth body, bit grainy with a sourdough quality to it, which is quickly enlightened by a soft but retronasally fragrant and delicate hop character, softly bittering and drying, yielding floral, refreshingly grassy and lemon peel-like flavours and carrying into the throat without becoming too harsh. Interesting beer: clearly a lot more estery than your average Kölsch (how long has this been cold lagered?) but this ’deviation’ from the style is compensated with a surprisingly delicate hop bouquet, which brings exotic fruitiness of its own and in that sense pairing well with the fruity esters. This is an ’artistic’, free interpretation of a Kölsch, but it still has the delicacy and (sometimes underestimated) subtlety of the style. Interesting, and I do like to see this old style being revived in the current craft beer revolution like this.

Bottle, courtesy of SinH4. Aroma of dust and fruit, fresh palate and a taste that’s hard to recognize as it’s killed by the carbonization.
