The St. Paul Double is a strong, dark abbey beer with secondary fermentation in the bottle. Thanks to the dryhopping technique, which adds hops after fermentation, it has a rich and distinct sweet aroma of roasted malt. Full-bodied and a rich and complex flavour in a combination of sweet and bitter. In addition, the double has a soft, subtle aftertaste.

Bottle from a Carrefour in Ninove. Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, big, beige head; little lacing. The aroma contains almond, plum, red grape or cranberry, candied orange, milk chocolate, toast, caramel, cinnamon, cookie dough. Medium malty sweet onset with hints of caramel, dough & plum, then light herbal bitter with a very light (berry-like) sour back. Dryish, herbal hoppy finish, slightly metallic, with a toasty effect and lingering malt. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Acceptable Dubbel.

Bottle. Opaque dark brown. One finger tall creamy beige head. Stays. Nose: rich malts revealing caramel, toast, toffee. Dried fruit, chocolate, nuts. A tiny bit bloody being cold. As the ale gets warmer this note fades out. Medium body. Lively carbo. Moderately sweet taste. Tastes pretty similar to how it smells. Well-tasting. Yeasty spice and some hops at finish. Really good. Just let it warm.

Tummanruskea olut, hieman punertavaa mukana. Hiivapartikkeleja reilusti, leijailevat oluessa. Vaahto hyvin vaalean ruskea.
