Virtually black with a beige head that’s more frothy than creamy. Aroma of old tobacco smoke, toast, dust. If there’s a fruity component I’m just not getting it. Taste is mildly bitter, full of roasted grains, dust, clay—with the last more pronounced at the end. Medium body, oily, soft carbonation. A dry, warm note appears at the finish. The whole thing with it’s smoke and oil and burnt toast and dust is a touch abrasive. Interesting I would say, and not bad, but not necessarily one for the buy again list.

330ml bottle, lot 120, bought at Village De La Bière, Strasbourg a few yeas ago. A fawn-coloured head resting on top of a dark brown body. Spotty lacing. Chocolate and caramel nose. Slightly roasted dark malts and dark fruity flavours with a backdrop of coffee. Rounded mouth feel. Medium bodied. Decent. (Joint session with Finn and djoeye, Tromsø 01.08.2017).

330ml bottle [a Bartlebierian trade item, thanks!]. Black colour with average to huge, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, tan head. Roasty, sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, notes of treacle, coffee, dark chocolate. Taste is roasty dark malty, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, roasty and hoppy bitterness.

Opaque dark brown colour, tall slowly diminishing tan head, fair lacing. Aroma roasted malts, cocoa, bay leaf. Taste medium sweet and bitter, roasty, dark chocolate, light spicy notes. Aftertaste as in taste added by some nutty notes, smooth mouthfeel, watery to creamy texture, light to medium body, soft carbonation. Not an exceptional beer and especially a bit on the thin side but well-made.
