Cask at Double Mountain, Hood River, 24/05/13. Lightly hazed golden amber with a decent sized white head that retains well. Nose is bitter orange, citrus, peppercorns, hops. Taste comprises hops, light pepper flavour, grass, orange pith, citrus, malt. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, excellent conditioning one of the best cask beers I’ve had in the US, light bitterness in the finish. Decent IPA - the peppercorn didn’t over power or bastardise the IPA in any way and the conditioning was spot on - I enjoyed this much more than the base beer which I had at the same sitting!

Tap at Horse Brass, Portland - 07/11/12. hazed mid amber with a thin off white head that soon clears to the edge and forms a pond. Nose comprises pale malts, floral tones, light hops. Tastes of light caramel malts, hops, touch of citrus. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a light bitter finish.

Bottle from Made in Oregon. Pours light amber with a 3 finger white head. Nose is strongly floral with citrus pine. Med body. Flavor is slightly roasted malt with a lot of citrus and pine. But it’s not harsh, and the floral resurges a bit in the finish. Well, there is a little hop burn, but it’s not harsh!

Cloudy golden coloured body with an off-white head. Aroma of fresh hops, pineapple, pine and a hint of resin. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong hop flour with a good malt backbone and a mild resin and pine flavour with some nice light sugars at the end. Aftertaste shows some good balance between hops and malt with not too much hops nor bitterness and some lighter grassy and herbal flavours. Overall, a decent IPA, but not spectacular and a lot less hops than expected. I sampled this pint on draught from Mother’s Bistro & Bar in Portland, Oregon on 11-April-2013 for US$5.50 sampled at the restaurant.

On tap at Urban Family Public House, pours a cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma of piney, grassy hops and biscuity malts. Flavour is very dry, full of piney, grassy hops, and biscuity malts. Quite dry and hoppy, with a long duration. Standard stuff, but very well executed. Great IPA.

2014-01-09, bottle from Legacy, Vancouver, 7-4-7-4-14=36
Cloudy deep blond color, too much; medium sized compact head. The aroma is rustic, but there are some citrusy hops, a vegetable impression. Good body strength; malt flavor, with a touch of wheat, very light cereals; quite strong spicy yeast, and strong bitterness; hop resins; it has very light residual sweetness, and final astringency.
Dirty but good.

2012-07-27, draught at Brouwer’s Café, Seattle, 6-4-7-3-13=33
Hazy amber color, with small creamy head. The aroma is not impressive, there is some white grape juice and pond water. The caramel flavor is quite good, it has a strong bitterness level, but not the expected qualities of the hops; nevertheless the final burns on the tongue, from some hop resins.
A solid brew that doesn’t impress.

Cask@Horse Brass Pub, Portland
Clear amber color, small steady white head, some lace. Dish cleanser-citrus aroma. Medium-bodied. Leafy hoppy, woody flavor. Moderate bitterness. Feels less than 7.5%.

I had this on tap at Apizza Scholls in Portland, OR. Aroma is rich in hops, as well as the taste. This is a fantastic IPA that’s lightly creamy and rich in more citrus hops. Great compliment to the pizza I had.

Shaker pint draft at the Dray in Seattle, Washington. Pour is a hazed orange amber copper with a light off white head. Nice streaking lacing. Aroma is pretty faint, as it opens up a bit, there is light resin and some grainy toasty malt. Taste is the resin hops up front, along with some floral fruit sweet hops, then followed closely by an earthy flinty element which finishes out with the toasty malt. Decent transition of flavors, though just ok integration. Palate is medium bodied, lightish carbonation, and a residual dirty earthy after taste.

On tap at Double Mountain Hood River. Pours out a cloudy gold topped with a cream white head. Aroma of citrus and floral hops rush to my taste buds. The taste was more of the double hop attack. Bitterness on the front and end. A good strong hopped IPA.

Draught. Poured pale orange with thick white head. Aroma of hop, flowers, citrus and pine. Full piney, floral taste. Lekker hop finish. Good with roast vegetables.
