Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children. In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well. It is unfiltered and dry hopped.

Sampled from bottle @ CBC 2014, thanks to whoever brought this. Hazy a bit pale yellow color, small white head. Quite hoppy aroma. Taste is lightly hoppy, lightly bitter, fruitiness of peach, grapefruit and nicely refreshing. A bit thin texture, but a decent body and suitable carbonation.

Pours hazy yellow with a smooth head. Aroma of fresh fruity hops, floral notes, citrus and grass. Taste is smooth, fresh hoppy and fruity with some floral and citrusy notes. Finish is lingering bitter, smooth and hoppy with loads of fruits, citrus and grass. Extremely hoppy and tasty pale ale. Re-rated on tap @ Armsby Abbey. Super crisp and rustic APA with some grass and grainy maltiness. Awesome APA.

Growler 750ml.

Cask at NERAX 2013, draught at Three Penny Taproom and Pro Pig, 3/15 and 3/16/14
The cask sample of this was just stunning. Wonderfully hoppy and beautifully bright and clear. Light malt sweetness and a touch of light caramel add just enough balance and character to prevent this from being just a mouthful of hops. Not that it’s too acidic by any means. Tons of simcoe juiciness, with all kinds of citrus complexity from all the C-hops. Soft and supple on the palate with no alcohol or flaws.
The draught versions seemed a little less "juicy" and soft, with more hop bitterness apparent. Probably the increased carbonation levels (and both draught samples were rather hazy, adding some dullness from the sediment). Still, like Susan, this manages a ton of hop flavor with very little fatigue from the acids. Deliciously dry and clean, of course.

I think I have an idea of how HFB is so successful. Its the look of their beers. No brewer makes beer that is this appetizing to look at. Its like McDonalds for Christ sake, they have perfected the smell, the food is shit of course, but no human can resist the smell from the bag when pull away from the drive-thru. Now, HFB backs up the look of the beer with extraordinary quality and taste, and this is no exception but looking at the pint as its pulled from the tap at the brewery, my mouth is watering. Golden cloudy deliciousness.
