Some of the best ideas for our craft beers come from our friends — both the two- and four-legged varieties. Kirby is a dachshund man. Mike likes his setters. Carl is the proud papa of a lovable lab. As loyal companions, they all have many admirable qualities — fine character, a sense of fun, and of course a dark, satiny coat. And we thought, "why not brew a beer to match?" Next thing you know, we had brewed up #003 Chocolate Lab.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing. Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Roasty malty aroma. Starts fine malty, roasty, stouty. Some hints of bitter chocolate. Finish milder, earthy-malty. Maybe a bit flat. Okay.

Many thanks to Chris for bringing. Dry chocolate beginning, refreshing with a dry malty body. Not too deep, quite thin with a dry roasted chocolatey aftertaste.

Bottle shared with Erzengel. A dark brown beer with a small beige head. Aroma of chocolate malt, nuts, caramel. Taste of dark chocolate malt, nuts, caramel, some red fruits, okay!

12 ounce bottle. Dark brown, large foamy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of cocoa, nuts, and a bit of cherry and roast. The taste is tart cherries, roast. Thin. Maybe a little off? If so, not badly so.

Sample at the taproom. Dark brown color with a medium foamy tan head that recedes steadily to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Light-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of chocolate malt and coffee. The finish is burnt malt and dark chocolate. Decent overall.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered deep burgundy-brown-black. Respectable steady beige head. Big chocolate and caramel aroma, roast coffee. A nice Brown Ale, with Stout/Porter tendencies. Tastes a little bigger than the 5.2% ABV woudl suggest. Rich, deep specialty malt tones. Some amber malt hidden underneath. Solid offering, nice to see that WBC will come correct.
