This mysterious ale boasts aromas of tropical fruit, a playful bitter edge, and the body and mouthfeel of an American hefe.

Ok, this was on tap at the bocktown. It was said to be a wheat beer. Being that I like wheat beers, I thot I’d give it a try. Let me tell you, this was a kick in the face. It was not cloudy, so I think it is filtered but it says not on this sight. Right off the bat I knew something was not right, it had a hefty hoppy aroma. Wew, first taste had nothing in common with a wheat beer, not even a wheat ale. Leaves a hoppy bitter thang down in the back of yer throat. Yes, much more than a wheat fer sure. And hefe? has nothing in common with a hefe ny friend. Barely any co2 in there. Finish is astringent medicine. I can’t figure out why I paid $5 for this 4 oz sample, rip off. Dissapointed and not impressed.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with light retention and very minimal lacing. Aroma of light wheat notes with some hoppy notes with some sugars also noticeable. Taste is dominated by quite a bit of residual sugars with some warming alcohol notes, some wheat malt with dry bitter hoppy notes also noticeable into this mix. Body is light for style with good carbonation with way too much alcohol noticeable.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/24/2013. Pours moderately hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, grass, wheat, bread, honey, pine, pepper, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hop, malt, and earthy/spicy yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel, lemon zest, orange rind, wheat, bread, honey, floral, grass, pine, pepper, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of pine bitterness and pepper/clove spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, orange peel/rind, lemon zest, wheat, bread, honey, floral, grass, pine, pepper, clove, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of citrus/tropical hops, malt, and spicy/earthy yeast flavors; with a great malt/spice/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a lightly creamy/slick and moderately sticky/crisp mouthfeel that is very nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wheatwine style! All around great complexity and balance of citrus/tropical hops, malt, and spicy/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle, 22oz. A lightly unclear one, dark golden in color and with a dense, off-white head. Rather piney aroma, with some mint hints and a malty touch. Very hoppy actually. That goes for the flavor too, lots of bitterness and some alcohol. Pine cones, some mint and fluor and quite a lot of sweetness. Full-bodied and warming, with a soft carbonation. Long finish with bitterness and sweetness, and quite a lot of hoppy flavors. Quite nice, but too intense I think. 131122
