Sampled two bottles side by side. One labeled best before 2007, the other 2010. The older one was insanely much better, both ratings belowBB 2010 [i](33 cl bottle, thanks rickgordon!)[/i]Muddy shady dark brown color, tan head. Spicy Belgian ale yeast scent. Spicy, Belgian ale yeast taste as well. Spicy aftertaste. Color is a few shades lighter than the 2010 "fresh" version above.Sweet, spicy and chocolate scent, also lots of nuts. Smooth chocolate and vinous, raissin taste. Bottle from the now closed Pitfield beer shop. Dark brown coloured with red undertones and a big off-white head. Aromas of molasses, liquorice, cardamom and chocolate. Flavour was sweet with dark fruit, spice and more chocolate. Complex and excellent.

Another christmas brew picked up mid July at Sugaya. Reddish brown with a nice light tan head. Very nice aroma. Sweet mats, alcohol, dark fruits, spices, raisins, chocolate, mmm. Though the alcohol is very noticeable in the flavor, it isn’t distracting. Roasted malts lead the way, alcohol, molasses, raisins, dark fruits, some sweetness, and spices. Nice, medium body with plenty of floaties since I wasn’t careful during the pour. Mellow, yet complex enough to add excitment. A great choice even though it’s the wrong season.

Süßlich-alkoholischer Geruch, etwas malzig. Etwas süßer, direkt abert recht alkoholischer Geschmack, etwas säuerlich zum Mittelteil hin. Im Hintergrund agiert dabei ein etwas merwürdiger und störender Ton, der künstlich-herb auftritt. Malziger Nachgeschmack, der würziger ausfallen könnte. Durchwachsenes Bier. Test vom 9.5.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 10,7,8,7,7,7 - 7,45

Tasted at Beer Cricus, Brussels. Loads of fruit in the aroma. Dark, cloudy brown beer with a lacing head. Sweet and fruity aroma and flavor, but it lacs the house taste of this brewer and that is a good change.
