From Sep 2007

Pours from 330ml bottle(best by 20/09/08) a slightly hazy straw colour with a fairly large head of foam that recedes quickly to just some spotting and some lacing.

The smell is of wheat, banana, and clove.

The taste is some nice wheat flavour, very light clove, and even lighter banana. Very lightly flavoured over all but what is there is good. Just needs to be a bit more assertive. The mouthfeel is light, the carbo is light, and it finishes on the watery side.

Bottom line: It's been a while since I last had some of this and I don't recall it being *this* light on the flavours. In my book, it's just so so. There are lots of others in the style that please my palate more.

250ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey golden colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Wheaty, slightly spicy and minimally fruity aroma, hints of banana, orange. Taste is minimally sweet wheaty, slightly fruity, hints of banana, orange, a bitter and minimally tart touch of orange zest, coriander overtones. Very well balanced, paradigmatic for sure, but not outstanding.

Apparently I haven't rated this yet. This time had it on tap at Hong Kong International Airport, paired with local pork belly and chicken rice dish. Poured deep white-orange with some white foam on top. Nose is as always, lots of orange juice, invitingly fruity. Taste has a bit of carbonation, light and flavourful, goes down really easy. I have pretty much always liked Hoegaarden, even long before I knew about craft beer. Best on tap and from that heavy original glass!

Finally tasted this classic of Belgian Whites... Pours hazy yellow with a small, foamy, white head. The aroma contains wheat, citrus, orange peel, apple, hops, some spices (coriander). It tastes light sour, medium fruity sweet, and very light spicy bitter in the finish. Light body, watery texture, soft carbonation. There's not much to it, but it lives up to its low expectations.

Flesje gedronken tijdens vakantie. Goudgeel troebel bier met weinig schuim. Aroma is citrusachtig. Smaak is fruitig en moutig. Nasmaak is iets bitter maar is snel weg.
