All New Englanders have a special place in their hearts for the old, dilapidated covered bridge of their youth. Maybe you rumbled over one every day riding shotgun in the family’s rusted-out pickup truck, or maybe one stands out from some rustic vacation largely long-since forgotten. No matter the case, they remain a symbol of nostalgia and youthful exuberance, a figurative bridge to another time.

For the traditionalist, the sentimental at heart, we offer Robust Porter, our take on a style of beer that, like these bridges, has remained impervious to trends, stalwart in the face of change. One gulp and you’ll be teleported to a simpler time. To that, all we can say is, Cheers

Bottle from the LCBO. Dark mahogany with a small tight khaki head that fades quickly to a sheet.Nose is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla and a hint of smoke. Light+ sweet toffee start leads to a moderate dark chocolate and coffee bitterness. Mouth is medium and creamy with slightly soft carbonation and a lingering dry finish. Well put together and balanced porter. 8+/4-/8-/4+/16

Thanks to PaleAleRider for this one. Pours a dark brown colour with a creamy-foamy beige head with good retention and creamy lace. Roasted malt aromas with some nice sweetness to balance things, like cacao, vanilla also liquorice and a little grassy leaf. The taste starts off with coffee, steering into the burnt malt and finishing with the mild hops. Bitterness and dryness lingers. Quite a nice robust porter.

33 cl bottle served in a white wine glass. Pours blackest of blacks, clean and bright. Moka-colored thick head. Intense aromas of coffe, chicory, leather, black chocolate and herbs. No liquorice present, though. Mouth feels soft, very creamy, elegant. Sheer but balanced bitterness. Very long-lasting finish. Very nice.

355ml bottle. Very dark brown almost black colour with a small tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and roasted malts, hint of coffee. Taste of bitter dark chocolate and coffee, some hops in the finish I think, bit of smokiness as well. Smooth and drinkable.
Bottle "best by" date was August ’15 (9 months ago as I write this), still tasted great though, hopefully can get hold of a fresher bottle soon would love to have it again.

Bottle from Norwich Tap House. Very dark brown with slight hints of light finding their way through. Light brown ring of head. Milk chocolate in the aroma, complemented by a light floral note. Taste starts sweet, then the bitterness kicks in. Not mouth-puckering but very intense a full. Vanilla and spruce in the aftertaste. Pretty damn good.
