Belgian Inspired Dark Ale

Originally conceived along the lines of a Belgian Dubbel, Hell Hath No Fury … Ale morphed during development into something entirely different. Brewed with Belgian abbey-style yeast, Hell Hath No Fury … Ale is more akin to a roasty stout, offering warm, roasted notes of coffee & dark chocolate with fruity and clove-like aromas.

Backlog September 2011. Dark brown, almost black body under a dense beige head. Aroma has malt, prunes and spices. Taste is sweet, malty, dry fruit, spices and alcohol. Fine body with long lasting aftertaste. Tasty and pleasant.

Huh. This is a pretty big stretch as a Dubbel, but whatever. Bottle. Pours opaque black with a small tan head, that dissipates fairly quickly with decent lacing. Roasty notes, hints of cocoa, leather, toffee, tobacco. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter, roasty, leather and tobacco. Perhaps a belgian yeastiness, but that is certainly not the predominant flavor characteristic. Foolish body, creamy mouthfeel. Good beer.

Draft. A- Roasty, cocoa, subtle dark fruit. A- Black color, black liquid, tan head. T- Roasty, cocoa. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- Thought this was a stout when I ordered it. Even tasted like it for the most part. Honestly, pretty unmemorable.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a translucent dark brown color. Small tan head. Faint roasted malt nose. Sweet roasted malt flavor has dark cherry and cocoa notes. Very Porter like. Finishes sweet with dried fruits and sweet cocoa.
