0.33 l bottle from 'Bierloods22', best before June 2023. Pitch black with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, light brown layer. Sweetish-malty, gently roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, some hazelnut and a touch of bourbon. Gently sweet, malty, fairly roasty-bitter taste of dark chocolate, coffee, licorice, toasted nuts and some bourbon, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, slightly earthy, slightly boozy finish. Full body, smooth and creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Heavy stuff but really well-balanced with subtle bourbon flavours, a fine sipper. Best Dutch beer in 2019?! Not so sure about that.

29 November 2019. At Billie's Craft Beer Fest. Cheers to the lovely Anke, tderoeck, 77ships & Ghent beer crew! Hazy black, very thin, beige head. Aroma of bourbon, green apple, vanilla, candied date, chocolate. Taste has sweet dates, raisin & chocolate, whiff of green apple, bitter mocha & wood with an edge of umami. Dry, peppery hoppy & woody finish, more vanilla, dark fruit & warming bourbon alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Nice bourbon touches, bit too much acetaldehyde for me again, but still rather soft.

33cl bottle from BBP in Brussels (bought 13. 12. 2019). F: big, tanned, good retention. C: black, opaque. A: dark malty, vanilla, bit woody, coffee touch, cocoa, bourbon, milk chocolate, complex T: full malty base, cocoa, bit bourbon, woody, coffee touch, vanilla, bit dark fruits, decent bitterness, very good balanced for the style, low carbonation, fully enjoyed.
