In collaborating with Stillwater Artisanal we always focus on distinct, clear, punchy flavors. This beer is no exception. Inspired by everyone’s favorite candy, this is a chocolate bar in a bottle. Unwrap!
We’ve brewed a lot of beers with Stillwater Artisanal. Before this one, we’d done six. All sours. So, when discussing our seventh collaboration, we knew we wanted to do something different. Choice fell on a big, thick, creamy stout. So far so good, but how do we approach a stout? What, other then sourness, is it that makes a Dugges/Stillwater collaboration? Clarity and directness was what we found. Choose a path and stay on it to the end. Decide upon one thing you want to bring forward and then do it to the max. Having already decided on a stout, maxing it with chocolate was a given. We wanted a beer that was equal part childhood dessert and candy bar. Brian came over from the US, we brewed the beer and the rest is chocolate. As all things are now. Chocolate.

--Sample, thanks oh6gdx! -- Aroma of homemade chocolate sauce. Very sweet with medium to full body and rounded mouthfeel. Tastes like pure homemade chocolate sauce. Simplistic and candyish.

Bottled. Black colour, not that much head. Aroma is chocolate, mild tartness with some alcohol, vanilla and some coconut. Flavour is chocolate, some mild coconut, alcohol, vanilla, mild tart berries and some herbal tones. A bit coffeeish in the aftertaste too once it warms up a bit.

Bottle at home. Three year old. Has a dark brown to black colour with a small beige head. Aroma of cocoa, chocolate truffles, coconut, tobacco and irish coffee. Flavour of cocoa, coconut, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, irish coffee, wood and tobacco. Has a silky mouthfeel, full-bodied and a soft bitterness. Well-balanced and filled with cocoa.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour, almost black, with brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, cacao, milky coffee, toasted coconut and vanilla. Malty, roasted, sweetish taste with notes of chocolate, cacao, coffee, toasted coconut, liquorice, vanilla and a gentle cacao bitterness in the finish. Full body, really sweet. Loads of chocolate, nice touch of coconut and vanilla. Sweet and powerful. Hardly balanced, but a great beer if you like chocolate.
