In collaborating with Stillwater Artisanal we always focus on distinct, clear, punchy flavors. This beer is no exception. Inspired by everyone’s favorite candy, this is a chocolate bar in a bottle. Unwrap!
We’ve brewed a lot of beers with Stillwater Artisanal. Before this one, we’d done six. All sours. So, when discussing our seventh collaboration, we knew we wanted to do something different. Choice fell on a big, thick, creamy stout. So far so good, but how do we approach a stout? What, other then sourness, is it that makes a Dugges/Stillwater collaboration? Clarity and directness was what we found. Choose a path and stay on it to the end. Decide upon one thing you want to bring forward and then do it to the max. Having already decided on a stout, maxing it with chocolate was a given. We wanted a beer that was equal part childhood dessert and candy bar. Brian came over from the US, we brewed the beer and the rest is chocolate. As all things are now. Chocolate.

Bottle at home, 28th January 2021. Pours a thick black viscous stout. Aroma is sweet, milk chocolate, cocoa. Taste is very sweet, liquid chocolate, some hints of bitterness, it’s sweet and I suppose the clue is in the name. Good but a bit sweet for me

Bottle. A- Coconut, slightly tangy, chocolate sauce. A- Black color, black color, fizzy dissipating head. T- Coconut, chocolate, nutty. P- Medium body, slightly thin texture, medium carbonation, balanced finish. O- The poured beautifully but then the inch plus head literally fizzled and popped away like pop rocks. Never seen anything like it! There was a bit of a tart apple aroma and the flavor was almost sandy in texture, a bit odd. Definitely get the almond joy out of this, but something somewhere was off. Improved as it warmed. Sweet but for all the sugar lacing the glass I expected it to be more cloying.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up in a trade. Pours deep brown with a creamy, tan head. Medium to big sweet flavour, lots of luscious chocolate notes, some cherry, coffee beans, raisins, chocolate syrup, roasted malts. Medium to full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Moderate warmth in the finish, only a little sticky sweetness, more hearty chocolate, well toasted marshmallows, chocolate-covered cherries. Quite drinkable, nice depth. Outstanding overall.

Semmi hab, fekete szín. Édeskés, kakaós, csokis, kókuszos, vaníliás illatok, aszalt gyümölcsös beütéssel. Édes, csokis, kakaós, aszalt gyümölcsös ízek, rozsos és komoly kókuszos, vaníliás aromákkal. Testes, enyhén szénsavas, közepesen keserű. Nagyon finom desszertsör.

Clear dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of sweet chocolate, some caramel, vanilla, crème brûlée, very nice! MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit sourish, lots of alcohol up front, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, bit sweet, nice dry and bitter roast. Aftertaste: roast, alcohol, very thick, super chocolatey, bit sugary, nice one!
