01/08/2019 - small tasting glass @Peak Brewery. Clear red, small pinkish head. Nose is grains, blueberries, dry. Taste is grains, quite some blueberry, bit tannins, dry. Feared for a cloying sweet candy fruit beer but this was way better and original then expected

Belgian ale from this new brewery in the Hautes Fagnes, a fruit beer with concentrated blueberry juice. Thanks to my girlfriend Goedele for bringing the bottle along from a trip to the city of Lièges. Pale lilac, mousy, thick, papery lacing, stable head, deep hazy fuchsia red robe with purple tinge. Aroma of indeed blueberry juice and blueberry jam, quite unmistakably so, mingled with notes of soggy white bread, chalk, white yoghurt, touch of sweet tomato sauce, forest fruit jam. Sweetish but also - quite unexpectedly - sourish onset, very much blueberry-coloured indeed, actual blueberry juice almost, with a citric edge; lively fizz, cereally malt core, but a bit thinnish. Retronasally, the blueberry juice effect returns, while down on the tongue, that light fruity tartness - even with a yoghurty edge - lingers. Some chalky and very light spicy accents in the end, otherwise ending restrainedly malt sweet with that strong aromatic fruitiness and light sourness remaining. The blueberry effect is, in all, more genuine here than I was expecting, which in the case of top-fermented Belgian fruit beers is a good thing; the sourish touch, no matter how light, also seems 'real' and helps maintain a high drinkability. Not my type of beer, but admittedly far better than I was expecting.

Pretty clear deep ruby beer, small creamy light pink head, little stable. Aroma: bit malty, yeast, fruity notes, not too much. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sourish, acidic, fruity, bit lemony, dry. Aftertaste: bit fruity, some blueberries, more acidic notes, some tannins, bit chalky, dry acidic finish.
