Bottle shared by Stefan, thanks. Thick and frothy, moussy, lacing, snow white head over an initially clear orangey blonde beer, misty and deeper peachy with sediment. Aroma of dried orange peel, bread crumbs, dust, straw, camomile, apricot, rose petals, raw potato, white grape peel, lemon zest, glue, honey, damp earth, wet brown paper bags, minerals, red apple. Crisp fruity pnset, hints of apricot, pineapple and unripe pear matching with a touch of acetaldehyde (green apple) and some basic sourishness; spritzy carbonation, lively but perfectly fit for a saison, smooth, bit ’papery’ body, lightly oily too. Light and crisp bready malt core with a sharper grainy edge in the middle, some natural iron and minerals here and there, while the restrained fruitiness continues well into the finish, meeting an earthy, floral, bit grassy and lightly spicy hop bitterness there, along with a yeasty accent and some spicy phenols, but everything remains well-contained and cleverly tied together. Brabant has done some exciting things, this brewer loves to experiment and experiments sometimes go wrong, but this one is a gem: it has all the crispness, restrained fruitiness and mild spiciness of any great saison. I guess this is what Brabant does best: a technically accomplished, tasteful, exemplary saison, not too far removed from the classically conceived farmhouse ales he used to make before the craft beer bug bit him. Very well done.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie consumed at home Thursday 10th December 2015 Hazy gold with a white head, a decent funky beer, soft. After a fruity start the finish is lengthy and dry, a bit burpy. Tangy and tasty, gets better and better A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5
