Don’t be deterred by this centuries-old invocation to reflect on life and death, like the monk above the cathedral’s main entrance admonishes us to do. Take some time for self-reflection while you sample this dark ale with a hint of grains of paradise.

Thick yellow-auburn head over reddish deep-brown beer. Sweet, coloured malts bomb, dry old wood, parsley, dark green leaves, dark candi sugar. Slightly sourish onset on sweet-bitterish dry malty flavour Cacao powder, green leaves again. Faintly spicy, indifferent. High attenutation, medium bodied, good carbonation. Very dry aftertaste. Pfff. Sense? With Antwerpens' N°1 a stonethrow away, and a plethora of young exciting breweries popping up all over Antwerpen, you had to go to Mater to have beers brewed??? Look at UA, they had a better idea.
