Crowler fill, thanks to Britney at Growler Guys. Aroma is dark bread crust, toasted marshmallow, anise, caramel. Pours dark brown with a two finger beige head with excellent retention and lace. Taste is moderately sweet and lightly bitter in the finish. Really great brown ale.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a deep dark ruby red almost brown color. Finger’s worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace.
The aroma had some soft sweet nuts, light chocolate brownie, black pepper and wood.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side at first and then brought in a nice bready sweetness to follow into the aftertaste. Slight bready to woody finish.
The feel was about medium bodied with a nice semi-smooth dry glimmering feel. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, pretty nice brown ale, slightly different than what I’m used to. Worthy of more pours.

Bottle, 6.2% ABV. Dark reddish brown with a large off-white head that laces nicely. Aroma of chocolate and toffee, some piney and herbal touches that jar slightly. Sweet with some chocolate and lots of fairly plain toffee. Fairly high bitterness chokes off the sweetness OK, but undermines the soothing quality of the maltiness that comes before. Not that that’s all that interesting for the strength. Caught between two stools for me - neither bland but harmonious nor quite breaking away.

Enjoy by July 27, 2014.

It pours brown with reddish highlights, a good 2 finger head of foam that shrinks slowly, leaving almost a complete layer on top of the beer.

The smell is a mix of roasted malt, a hoppy bitterness that almost borders on being fruity, and some notes of sweet malt.

In the taste, there seems to be a nice balance amongst the smells I noted above. It’s very smooth and tasty and very easy to drink. I just reviewed another Brown Ale that was more assertive with the hop bitterness and I liked it a lot, but this is JUST as enjoyable, in different ways.

On the light side of medium bodied, on the lower side of medium carbonation, the mouthfeel is good.

A very nice well made brown Ale. I enjoyed it.
