Hong Kong Beer, the Brewery’s flagship label is Hong Kong’s only handcrafted beer brewed to a traditional German lager recipe. The use of a single type barley brewing malt, Hallertau hops and Weihenstephan yeast forms the basis of this elegant beer, providing it with a light fruity aroma and a notably soft palate. A long gentle lagering maturation period completes the beer with a smooth body and a refreshing finish. Hong Kong Beer it is a thirst quenching beer ideal for hot summer days and is a perfect compliment to all Chinese food.

(bottle) clear amber with small off white head; faint aromas of soy sauce, fruit; generally simple flavour with long, medium bitter and mineral finish; not great but better than most asian beers

35 cl bottle, 4.7% thanks to a friend who brough me from HK. Pours amber color, clear, average offwhite head, looks like a Vienna. On the nose sems malty. Aroma is softly malty, slightly roasted, a bit of caramel and a metallic\copper hue, mineral notes. Hop is not shining thru, but there’s some. There’s something else i can’t define what it is, somewhat citrusy and spied, but very faint and difficult to get. Taste is softly bitter, palate is watery and finish is dry. Has a tough life compared to the EU standard, but i guess on the asian maket this has some interesting features.

Tried at a super upscale drinkery on the top of one of those Hong Kong Towers, poured quite chilled. Nice aroma of fruitiness on the nose, and malty sweetness. Charming orange-bright brown body with no head, even when poured by an expert waitress - thusly it should be poured headless, one would assume. Taste is a pleasant mix of sweet malts with some fruity touches. Okay mouthfeel. This is a decent beer, worth seeking out if you’re in the city.

Super clear golden coloured body with a thinnish white head that leaves a pretty ugly lace on the side of the glass. Aroma of nice fresh malt, lemons, a touch of low a.a. hops, some raisins and a hint of coriander seed. Light-bodied; Sharp assertive hoppy taste up front with a mellow maltiness and a deep pungent grassy and barnyard flavour soon afterwards with a grassy bite at the end. Afterwards fairly bitter on the palate with the grass and bitter caramel coming through. Overall, a pretty bad beer, but when there aren’t many alternatives, this one was neat to try. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased at City/Super! Supermarket in the best city in the world: Hong Kong (off the Causeway Bay MTR stop), China on 26-August-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 21-January-2010.

Golden and sparkly. Fairly malty aroma with some fresh grain notes. The nasal hops are light, fruity and spicy. Fairly spicy palate, but fades into biscuity malts.

Small white head over pale golden beer with an orange shine. Very dusty grains nose, a touch of alcohol and a LOT of cornflakes/corn syrup and similar adjuncts. Liquid cornflakes, and... I had expected rice, but it just reeks of corn. Finish gives some oxydation, making it a bit honey-like, actually nearly bettering it. Sticky MF, undercarbonated, lame. Typical international lager. Microbrewery they claim??? Thanks to Stefan, all the same!

33 ml bottle thanks to a friend from Stockholm. BB 31/07/09. Labelled 4.7% ABV. Clear straw yellow color, small white head. Weak grassy scent. Malty, dry, soapy taste. Medium mouthfeel, dry bitterness.

Bottled 4,7%.
Pale yellow color, mostly vanishing head. Grainy, cardboardish aroma. Slightly grassy, malty, quite American (not German) feeling here (Brooklyn lager!). Finish is cardboardish, which lowers the points.

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Pale golden colour, small white head. Aroma is a real haybomb. Flavour is hay, hops and slight malts. Very dry cartboardish aftertaste.

[Draught at Hong Kong Brew House, Lan Kwai Fong] Golden colour, minimal head. Evident grainy malt aroma. Fairly sweet with clean but soft mouthfeel. Grassy hops are obvious. Medium bodied with low bitterness. A well balanced, drinkable lager.
