San Diego Style Ale

What is San Diego Style Ale? It is an ale that’s made with more attitude than hops. And boy are there a lot of hops.

From bottle at Stone Bistro, thanks to Greg Koch. Pours hazy orange with a tan head. Mild spiced hoppy aroma. Grapefruity and dense yet also smooth fruity and nicely balanced with caramel malt. Lingering fruity hops finish.

Courtesy of tbd975. Pours nearly clear, but not, deep gold with off white head. Nice big ole aroma of grapefruit juice with some pine out in the back to go with some faint sweet maltiness in the background. It even gets a bit grassy. The taste is bold and yummy with a brash note of pine hop bitterness bleeding into grapefruit juice. Like the aroma some mild malt sweetness rides out the back. Nice big hoppy brew bringing forth a semi thick mouth feel that carries a tasty load of bittering hops and a touch of sweetness. Well done.

Fiery amber. Simcoey nose, very bright with some papaya accents. Chewy, slightly resiny hops. Decent amount of crystal malt and a dry finish.

Good, receding head over amber ale. Passion fruit & grapefruit hops, very fruit-estery in a natural way. Very bitter, extremely so; just escaping metallic/quinine bitterness. Bit burning MF, medium bodied, warming. Very WestCoast IPA, true to "style" and its exaggerations. The "attitude" and text on the label doesn’t spoil a thing...
