This highly phenolic brew drank like a big red wine with raspberries, blackberries and dark cherries. Reminded me a syrah, with phenols that somehow works.

Bouteille.

Sedimented, to say the least. Orange colour. Slightly plasticy aroma with hints of other phenols, banana and lots of sugary malts. Sweet, soft and sugary with phenols, banana and a little alcohol in the finish. I like my weizens sweet but this is perhaps more than I can handle.

Bottle: Poured a bright golden color ale with a big foamy white head with good retention. Aroma of dry wheat is pretty intense and interesting. Taste is also dominated by wheat with a dry finish. Not a lot of banana and cloves notes are discernable thought. Body is slightly above average with some adequate carbonation and no alcohol is discernable. Overall, this is way more interesting then the brewery usual offering but still not as complex as expected.

Medium, orangey head taking some time to form; quite carbonated, hazy orange beer. Very citrussy nose; cloves and bananaester. A very lightly smoked touch, and just a tad fish-y. Rather aggressive phenolic taste, with again citrus, orangepeel, kumquat, some meaty esters. Ends more earthy. Burning MF, at the limit of astringency, medium bodied. Not quite bad, and a Canadian preceding all the Americans in the Imperial race. Merci Luc!

Hazy golden weizen with a thin off white head. Well done aroma of bananas, cloves, oranges, and other spices. In mouth, a good sweet malt with banana esters, cloves, warming alcohol, and oily mouthfeel. Nice light hop bitterness lingers and lets itself be enjoyed. Bought at Joanette, 2.79$.

2006 bottle shared with Olivier on 8/25/06.
Unfiltered beer, leaving some sediment behind and appearing a moderately hazy, golden-amber with a strong cream-colored tint. Plenty of white head is quite dense and well-retained, providing some lacing and with medium-sized bubbles coursing throughout the liquid. A little bit better head retention/lacing and it would be a perfect appearance.
Creamy, mushy, moderately sweet bananas in the nose are a product of the esters, and easygoing, soft, creamy wheat. Graced with a dollop of caramel/brown sugar for an added richness, it soothes the senses well. Quickly building up and climaxing on the finish, are the typical phenols noted in this style, showing an authentic, properly fermented yeast. White pepper, some minor clove and a touch of vanilla balance the finish, while a hint of grassy, soft, flowery hops are noted. Medium to medium-high aroma strength. Great comprimise between a dark, overly sweet or phenolic weizenbock and a more pale, softer/lighter hefe weizen. Alcohol not noted in the aroma.
Much more zestiness in flavor, though the unfiltered nature still supports a soft, creamy body. Clove phenols, white pepper and dull bananas (dulled by wheat) provide quite a sensation, while a zesty carbonation keeps things dry. Vanilla wafers, very light caramel and soft bubble gum on the finish, with a touch of a mineral note (the water, perhaps?). Some very minor alcohol warmth, but it remains very, very drinkable for its strength and nothing is remotely overdone.
