50,000 bottles were brewed using a traditional recipe of Target, Challenger and Northdown hop varieties. The taste is rich with notes of marmalade, raisins and Christmas cake; the spicy hops well balanced with a pleasant bitterness.

Bottle #22128. Clear copper coloured with a thin off-white head; rich aroma of stewed fruits, apricots, raisins and prunes with traces of alcohol; body is quite thin with vinous flavours, chewy malt and warming alcohol; dry and warming finish. Smooth and exceptionally sippable.

Nut brown color, small off-white head. Nutty, vintage aroma, similar to 2000 vintage (sampled in this same session), but weaker. Dry liquerish and a bit cellary flavor. Alcoholic, woody hoppy, a bit harsh. I suppose that this is something what vintage 2007 will be over the years.

Bottled. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is raisins, malts and alcohol with mild touches of vanilla and wood. Flavour is quite sharp alcohol, grass, raisins, sweet malts, hops and some wooden and vanillaish notes.

The bottle has been shaken, so it pours a cloudy amber color, with a generous head, thick. The aroma is malty, sweet, a bit fruity light aroma of apples, light aroma of fudge. The mouthfeel is good; the flavor is malty, sweet, with sweet caramel and fudge, very light fruitness (ripe apples); the final shows a rising bitterness, with toffee traces, lasting long; everything is well mixed together, a very good example of brewing art; warming alcohol, makes you feel like sitting by the fireplace; almost with no sign of age.

Bottle. # 48335. Pours an amber colour with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with lots of dark fruits. Also some hints of caramel. Sweet malty toffee and caramel flavor. Also dark fruits in the flavor. Long malty warming finish with some slightly bitterness in the aftertaste.

(Bottle 50 cl) Bottle # 31444. Slightly hazy, dark amber with a dense, light brown head. Very concentrated sherry aroma. Full-bodied, lightly sweet body with some overripe fruit, apricots and light notes of sherry - sherry vats perhaps. Quite some warming alcohol in the finish. Excellent. 201206

A dark amber beer with a thick orange head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of prunes, but also over ripe fruits, and hints of wood. The flavor is very sweet and very complex with notes of fruit, prunes, and wood, as well as light notes of alcohol. Leading to a dry citrusy bitter end.

Clear amber coloured body with no head at all. Aroma of nice pit fruit, grapes and toffee. Medium-bodied; Nice full sweet taste with pit fruit and a good mild bitter malt flavour. Overall, a nice beer - a bit stronger and harsher than 2002, but still a damn good beer! I sampled this beer from a 50 cL bottle after the RB party at Founderโs in Alexandria, Virginia at Mikeโs (the_beer_god) hotel room on 20-November-2004.

Foxy amber; thick, lazy but plenty bubbles to flimsy, disparate head, fast gone. Caramel, gingerbread, vinous and liquorice in the nose. Hopbitter on top of sweet speculoos. The finish swings again to lupuline. Faint wood, liqueurish; but also more vegetable bitterness - Cynar? Also a bit of tobaccoleaf, and, warming up, again liquorice. Velvety, oily mouthfeel. Quite well-bodied. Doubtless a great beer, carefully nurtured. Having sampled the '99 vintage some years ago, and having liked that one even much more, I have a nagging feeling I ought to have had more patience, once more.
