The quality of the cold brewed coffee that goes into Texas Exile is important to us. That’s why we hooked up with MA coffee roaster Barismo. These guys are as serious about coffee as we are about beer. About 33 gallons of cold brewed coffee goes into each batch of Texas Exile right before fermentation, adding the perfect compliment to the brown sugar and oatmeal flavors of this huge imperial porter. Breakfast just got a punch in the neck.

Small, deep-beige head over ink-black beer. Ersatzcoffee, maltdrink, and, OK, real coffee too, if sweet-malty orientated. But throughout, a very fine green leaves’ nose weaves itself through the black forest. Bitter-sweet, with wood, black cardemom, coffee, café noir biscuits, moccha, or Sachertorte with a black chocolate overload. Finish has something surprisingly cola-like. Thick, rather well-bodied, velvety feel; slight alcoholwarming. Dangerously drinkable for a 10%+ ABV monster.

650ml bottle. Pitch black colour with small, creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, brown head. Aroma has herbal hoppy overtones in the foreground, dark malty basis with intense coffee notes. Taste is dry dark malty, lots of coffee, roasted coffee beans, roast, very subtle sweetness, herbal and grassy hoppy overtones, lasting dry to bitter hoppy finish with hints of alcohol; oily texture, sticky palate. Not really balanced, nice coffee, bad hops.

Bomber split with Tomaz @ home. Love the label design.

22 fl oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aroma is solid coffee, dark roasted malt and light alcohol. Dense, almost oily thick coffee dark malty. Clear alcohol presence, bone dry and dark roasted. Too much.

Slightly raw starch aroma. Flavors are nutty, earthy, compost, coffee grounds, chocolate, roasty, peanut shells. Nutty alcohol, minerals. Rich earthiness with bitter chocolate. Oatmeal. Creamy, smooth, fuller (~2.55 ish volumes) carbonation for the style, big bodied and warming.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to mottle surface. Espresso and dark chocolate aromas. Thick with dark chocolate and caramel upfront turning to espresso and bitter earth in the lasting finish.
