Draft at Appalachian Vintner during RBWG 2014 - Asheville. Pours deep, black-brown with a creamy, tan hear. Hefty chocolate aroma with notes of ash, cocoa and brownies. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with bittersweet cocoa, further ashy roast, torched earth bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Warming finish with rich bittersweet baking cocoa, dirt and burnt wood. Very good.

Sampled from bottle [from trade with BOLTZ7555] @ RBBSG II. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized beige to light brown head. Smell malts, some roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, chocolate, bitter. Lots of dark chocolate bitterness in the finish that lasts forever. Full body, medium but suitable carbonation. Wow, this is a very good stout and a superb chocolate stout! Fantastic.

Courtesy of Benzai. Thx! 65 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBSG II. Brewed during 02/2013. Blackish sludge, mocha head. Nose is sweet chocolate, bonbon’s, cocoa paste / butter, molasses, sticky sweet with sweet spices. Taste is sweet chocolate, not the richest top quality fare, lightly bitter, chocolate paste, touch molasses, light spices,.. Sticky, rich, slightly decadent. Good stuff but not worth the hype. The politically incorrect label is kind of stupid but I do like the fact that they got away with it.

10/VIII/13 - 1Pt. 6 Fl. Oz. bottle @ RBBSG II, my place - BB: n/a (2013-750) Thanks to Benzai for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, fizzy small beige head, falls down to a thing layer of small bubbles. Aroma: caramel, mocha, coffee, bit sugary, dried fruits, hint of chocolate. MF: ok carbon, meium to full body. Taste: sweet start, caramel, mocha, bitter chocolate, mocha, coffee, little sour, some alcohol. Aftertaste: chocolate, lots of coffee, bitter hops, grains, caramel, more coffee. Nice, but was expecting it to be more chocolaty, and less stout like.

Bottle courtesy of ygtbsm94. Chocolate, prune, roasty coffee, woody vanilla, and alcohol aroma. Black with a small creamy brown head. Sweet chocolate, roasty coffee, dark fruit, and light acidic flavor with a long roasty bitter finish. Full body, soft carbonation. Yep, it’s good.

22 oz. bottle, sent from CooperEllis (thanks a lot, John), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is very roasted, with high percentage bittersweet chocolate, dry cocoa, some toffee and some dark fruits. Flavour is quite roasted, with lots of dry cocoa powder dominating along with the roasted malts, and some mildly bitter coffee underneath. Not a huge flavour punch, with the dryness from the cocoa making this actually rather mellow and easy drinking. Well-made indeed, but there are much better chocolate imperial stouts out there (Choklat, Brooklyn Black Chocolate, etc.). Not tremendously complex or anything, but easy to drink. Very enjoyable, but short of the status it enjoys on ratebeer, in my opinion.
