Bottle. Opaque, black liquid with minmal mocca, tan head. Aroma of grassy hops, chocolate, coffee, toffee, vanilla, boozy, licorice, toasty, biscuity malt, pine and bread. Taste is dry and medium bitter with notes of chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A bit bland, sadly. Not worth the hype.

Draft. Very dark maroon color, scant beige head, solid lacing. Aroma of chocolate liqueur. Taste is rich, dark chocolate truffles. Nice, but simple.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with excellent retention. Chocolate aromas. Thick with dark chocolate and espresso upfront turning to milk chocolate before the lasting bitter resin finish.

2010 Bottle from Wally. Poured into a Riedel Glass at Cellar Temp (55 F) A - 1/2 a finger leather colored head. The beer itself was deep dark black with amber color on the edges of the glass. Total definition beer for what an Imperial Stout should look like. S - On the nose, molasses, chocolate, vanilla, figs, apricots and Pepsi T - Wonderful taste. Maple Wood is huge in this followed by Cane syrup, vanilla and figs. M - One swish leads to about half liquid / half bubbles. Lots of booziness and alcohol. It lingers for a while O - This is an intense beer. Probably best to let it sit another year or open it and let it breathe.

Samples from the 2009 and 2010 bottles with the Madison crew. Deep opaque black-brown, rusty beige head. World Class. Big cocoa nib taste. Lacy head. 2010 is way more smoky. Amost astringent coffee cocoa nib bitterness. Wow. Great beer. Nice.

GABF 2011 - a medium dry, roasty, moderately espresso-ish imperial stout - medium black malt bitterness - the cocoa brings a slighty astringent bitterness - espresso character is a bit burnt in nature - finish of char and lingering bitterness - pretty dang overrated.

Bottle thanks to ygtbsm94: Opened to a foamy spurting chocolate shavings head, poured a deep black. Aroma was grassy hops and chocolate. Taste is burnt chocolate and coffee, some fruit and burning alcohol in back of mouth/throat.
