Matt was inspired by Matt VandenBerghe and Matt Bonney (Bottleworks and Brouwers in Seattle), who personify the spirit and dedication that has helped craft beer become the vibrant industry it is today. This Beer was originally Brewed to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Bottleworks, and will be released every few years from the Brewery. Matt is made with two Munich malts, two Smoked malts and two types of Belgian candy sugar. It is aged in Kentucky Bourbon and Apple Eau de Vie barrels from Clear Creek distilling. Matt is deep and lush with notes of apple, chocolate and smoke.

[2019 Vintage] 12oz bottle. Pours black with no head. Nose is very complex with dark malts, gentle smoke and tobacco, dried dark fruits, blackstrap molasses, bourbon. Flavour has dry roast, lots of smoky tobacco, solid notes of bourbon and brandy, dried dark fruits, dark molasses sugars, dry black liquorice. This is fantastic, rich and complex, great depth of flavour. Amazing.

From tap at Borefts 2019. Syrupy and smokey aroma with tobacco, burnt caramel, light apple, and molasses. Sticky sweet, full body, rich sippable beer. Some bitterness. Perfect beer in front of a fireplace.

Vintage 2022, alc. 11.5%. A black beer, almost without head. Aroma has raisin, other dried fruitness, smokyness, barrel, also alcohol, but it fitts nicely to this strength. Taste has richness of malts, smokyness, barrel, light dried fruitness of raisin and bourbon. Full bodied, not stickyness. Powerful, slightly boozy, quite complex. Well, this is very tasteful beer.

Bottle. 2022 bottling. Pours an opaque dark brown color with no head. The aroma is big and bold with black licorice and whiskey barrel. The taste, like the aroma, is over the top anise, leather, dark fruits and whiskey. The palate is full, oily and viscous. Carbonation is minimal. Finishes long and semi-sweet with ripe plums. Overall: decent brew. Another great concoction from a legendary brewer. Paired well with some beemster swiss.

From a 12 oz bottle with a huge thanks to Solidfunk for this one. Pours a clear cola with an off white head. Aromas are of toffee and pit fruits. Flavors are sweet toffee. Smooth and delicious.

Bottle at share: pours brown with beige head. Aroma is tobacco, caramel, toffee, some distant fruitiness, liquor. Taste is sweet, some light bitter note, hella malty. Large, deep and complex.

Tobacco, caramel and orange. Brownish pour with ok head. Oily consistency. A hint of lavender. Proper balance and something wonderful from the old school. Bottle.
