Our Collaboration beer breweed with Urbain Cotteau of De Struise Browers, Vletern, Belgium. Very similar to a Flanders Oud Bruin, this sour mash beer is rich, slightly smoky and sour. There is a unique woody flavor from the 4 month bourbon barrel conditioning it underwent. The nose is very light caramel and vanilla. The color is ruby brown to amber. It is brewed similarly to Urbain’s own Ypres beer, with a Kentucky Spin on it. [Website lists ABV at 7.0%, bottle says 9.0%].

Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland Saturday Session 2 - 01/03/14. Murky chestnut brown with reddish hues topped by a moderate light beige covering that thins to spotting. Nose is tarte dark fruits, oaky woody twinges, tannins, dirt, earthy, light must, dates, stewed prunes, spice. Taste comprises tangy dark fruits, musty woody notes, tarte fruits, winter berry fruit, fruitloaf, light fruit balsams. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, tarte drying close. Tasty enough offering but lacks depth and complexity for the ABV.

Danish tasting session
Hazy dark amber color with small head. Light smoke aroma, very light fruity touch. Lean body, with mild smoke and sour flavor, light residual sweetness (hence not too dry) and an impression of gorgonzola cheese; relatively low bitterness with light final astringency.
Very interesting.

Bottle, 75cl corked. It pours an unclear, amber-orange body under a dense, light beige head. The aroma is fruity and lightly malty with some berries and sourish notes. The flavor has the same sourness and fruityness, as well as a little malty caramel. Pleasant carbonation level and a dryish sourness. Full to medium body. Lasting sour and fruity finish with berries. A pretty nice one, could drink more of this. 140301
