Car. Pours black. Treacle nose. Roasted malts for sure, but a lot more underneath. Caramel, pine resin, something floral. This is a damn good beer.

Buying this I thought - after Red Nut - it would be an Imperial Red. Clearly I do not grok the nomenclature, but at least I'm wearing lycra. Big mouth can, 7.0% ABV. Black with a 3/2cm tan head that never quite vanishes. Aroma of chestnuts &c, chicory as much as coffee, some licorice, lemon. Interesting. Some raw nuts. Just medium bodied. Coffee, heavier roast than expected, licorice, firm English-style spiced bitterness. Pretty good; ploughing own furrow as usual.

From a 375ml can on 14/7/2019 (ABV listed as 7% not 7.5%). Pours a deep brown witgh a medium tan head. The nose features roasted malt , a bit of coffee and some fridge like notes. Taste wise, you get lots of roasted and burnt malt up fronty, a bit of coffee, and nuts and smokiness, followed by some pretty firm hops, with a slight saltiness at the back. Medium bodied with average carbonation. As others have observed, this is more a black IPA than a porter. Has a fair bit of character but could use some more sweetness to balance things out. Just okay.

(On tap) Great looking beer - black with big fluffy tan head. Great aroma too - roasted malt, coffee, port and raisin notes. Medium Body with great carbonation, slightly sticky. Full flavored and well balanced. Initially there's some strong bitterness both hoppy and burnt toffee, black coffee. These get balanced by some dark toffee / molasses sweetness and some raisin sweet and tart notes. Excellent.

On tap at Wig & Pen, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out roasted malt and piney hops. Flavour brings out lots of chocolate, roasted malt and piney hops. Rich, creamy and balanced. Really nice.

Dark brown. Chocolate and grapefruity aroma. Bitter, citrusy character, lots of chocolate. More Black IPA than porter, but that’s fine by me.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours black. Taste of dark chocolate, nuts. Actually, more nuts, and they’re also defining the aroma. Beautiful.
