This IPA refuses to be pale. In fact, it is a deep ruby red. This huge American style beer, originating from Oregon, uses West Coast hops in appropriately massive proportions, braced by a strong crystal malt backbone. Deep ruby red, earthy orange and caramel nose, sweet toffee start, peppery dark roast parsnips and a long bitter finish. This beer is a Hardknott classic and best exemplifies our American craft beer influences and our intention to shock stuffy traditionalists.

Bottle at the mondiale 2014. Amber pour, small off white head. Big cereal aroma, breads, slight roast and some nuts with a touch of herbal hops. The finish is lightly bitter, and quite malty, but the malts are light. Nothing is over powering,,its all quite subtle from the bready, lightly toasted malts to the herbacious, grassy hops. A great balance of subtle flavours.

Bottle from Booths, Clitheroe. Clouded amber-brown with a very active head when poured from the bottle - frothy and disappearing. Has a stated tropical fruitiness with its strength very stated through this.

Aroma is floral and hoppy with a touch of caramel. Nice taste. The fruity caramel sweetness balances well against the dryness of the hop.

330ml bottle. Clear, copper-ish, dark amber colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, ochre-ish beige head. Fruity hoppy aroma, hints of cherries and red berries, some orange, sangria borrowings. Taste is slightly sweet caramel malty with a nuttily touch, fruity hoppy overtones with hints of sweet red fruit, a bitter touch of orange zest.

Bottle from Morrisons. Murky amber/ruby body with a thick beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of caramel, nutty malts, wood and red fruits. Flavour of stewed strawberry, parma violets, dried fruits and earth. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. Restrained and less hoppy than I’d hoped it would be. Decent beer though. I don’t think the description on the bottle reflects the beer contained within.
