Bottle pour @ MBWAC 2020, Copenhagen. Vinous, earthy and funky with some grapes, farmyard, musty yeastiness, maltiness and saisony notes. Okay.

Bottle. Grote Dorst. Hazed, slightly murky, medium gold. Barely a head. Nose has semi sweet white wine. Grape must. Dusty books. Because that’s a real thing. Sweet citrus back notes. Some floral herb. It’s not piling out of the glass, but it does draw you in to it. Taste has light, grape juice sweetness, prior to a sharp, clean and dry, vinous tartness. Smooth on the palate. Light to moderate acidity. Fine, bright carbonation. Herbal and vinous on the finish. Very good. Missus’ favourite on the day.

Pours unclear blonde, no real head. Smell is very herbal, lambic, mineral, oaky, petrochloride. Taste is full, tart, milder herbal notes. Mineral, mild oxidative notes. Medium carbo, medium fullbodied. Nice acidity, dry, noticably dry ending.

Now two year old Bokke blend of saison and lambic, aged on white wine barrels apparently. At Wild Festival in Groningen, poured by Raf ‘Soef’ himself. Snow white, mousy, bit irregular and uneven-bubbled but stable head on a misty warm peachy-orange blonde beer. Aroma of yellow plums, Chardonnay wine, sour grapes, freshly cut red apples, lime juice, dough, unripe peach. Crisp, very ‘crystalline’, bright onset, fizzy and cava-like in terms of carbonation but forwarding a whirl of plum-, grape- and green pear-like fruitiness with an orange-like edge, minerally and supple, with cleanly edged, rounded bready malt body; soft lime juice and sour grape acidity throughout, but in a subtle, very ‘decorative’ way, keeping things interesting and refreshing till the end. Lovely white grape and ripe orange aspects further colour the finish, with a mildly spicy hop bitter touch connecting all the flavours, as well as light, noble woody tannins. Ends very lightly powdery. Fruitier version of Bokke’s renowned Zomersaison, in a way, with a degree of brightness and crispness rarely seen in sour ales – this is classic Bokke quality level again. Fantastic.

Sampled at Wild Festival Groningen. Hazy golden with big white head. Soft weedy funk, dry apricot notes, light herbal. There’s a nice Lambic funk but also some sweet yeasty and fruity notes, underlying herbal notes and fruit skins. Almost medium sour, under medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with sparkly carbonation. Yum.
