On tap @ Moeder. Smooth malty beginning. Deep and malty, round and dry. Chocolate, malt, caramel. Round and dry, quite sessionable. Smooth with not much bitterness in the end.

On tap at L’Ermitage, Brussels on 19th January 2018. Impenetrably black with tan foam and scant lacing. Rich and intense roast malt aroma. Spicy touches and fragrant herbs decorate a richly roasty liquid pass, and the finish is of coffee and roastiness, with just a touch of bitter chocolate. Light body for the strength and a full, engaging texture. Superb.

Hoppy porter from this interesting new Brussels micro brewer, bottle at Kantien in Ghent. Moussy, medium sized, yellowish beige head, slowly dissipating in the middle; ink black colour, bronze edges. Aroma of freshly crushed black peppercorns, burnt toast, black chocolate, fried black olives, grapefruit peel, bladderwort, wormwood leaves, cigar ashes or burnt pipe tobacco, dry tree leaves, black coffee. Dry onset, dried fig and blackcurrant hints, light and thin dried mushroom-like umami accent, leathery, medium carbonated. Supple, bit oily mouthfeel, toasted malt bitter body, toasted nuts, with only a low amount of sweetness to it; black bitter chocolate touch, herbal and grapefruity hop bitter finish, very peppery, bit resiny and quite aromatic; bit powdery effect in the end, some warming gin-like alcohol. I love a good black bitter beer and in this one, the bitterness of the toasted malts and roasted barley is very strongly enhanced by a generous, firm, peppery hop bitter dosis, with a result not unlike a black IPA. Lovely.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 01/08/2018.

Keg at Hop Locker #3. Bitter coffee aroma. Dark and glossy. Creamy but thin beige head. Light bitter with a sour edge. Chocolate. Coffee. Berries. A citrus element. Light-medium bodied. Thin. Low key fizzy carb. Long slightly astringent finish. A 'heavier' porter. Keeps things interesting.

330ml bottle, take-out from Tilt. Pours dark, nice mocha head. Aroma has some nice hop-tinged roast. Good roast / pine combo in character, nice fruit presence, good underlying chocolate. Tasty india porter.
