I must say I was skeptical about the high ratings an amber received but this is actually a really superb amber without wading too far into pale ale territory. Lots of citrus nose here with big hops and a good malty backbone fingered with a perfect tone of amber rust. Finishes with light bitterness. Tap at Churchkey.

Uklar brunrød farge med tynt lyst beige skum. Lukter humle, grapefrukt. Medium fylde og har en humlebitter preg i smaken som jeg liker godt. smaken sitter i lenge.

355 ml bottle from AEON Liquors @ Jiyugaoka. Pours dark amber / copper with a small head. Lacing is nice. Aroma is a bit watery, there are some malt bread aromas and maybe a bit of fruits but everything is quite subdued. Taste is interesting - some fruity rowan flavours, quite unique if you ask me. Mid taste is bittersweet and aftertaste has some long lasting hop bitterness together with some fruit sweetness. Interesting brew, I was expecting it to be more hoppy and more like a usual IPA but it feels different from any beer I can remember.

Bottle thanks to jcwattsrugger: poured a chocolate brown with tan color head. Thick rich malty aroma with soft hops. Taste is dark chocolate, caramel malt, light hops. Finish is dry with more hops bitterness remaining.

Amber colored beer, with a malty body and a nice fruity taste of hops. Like an amber IPA.

From Sept 2008

I got this bottle in a trade with russpowell. Thanks Russ!

This pours a hazy red colour with close to a 2 finger head of foam. Nice lacing.

The smell is a nice mix of sweet and bitter. Good caramel malt and pine and citrus hops.

The taste follows the nose...strong flavours of both caramel malt sweetness and ample hoppiness with pine being primary and citrus being secondary and I notice some roastiness and some grain after the first couple of sips. Very close to being balanced but the pine just edges out the malt.

The mouthfeel is solidly medium as is the carbonation, and it finishes with some roasted malt goodness and just a touch of pine. Nice. Nice and very drinkable. Btw, head retention is quite good as is the lacing.

Bottom line: This is definitely one of the better Red/Amber Ales I've tasted to date. I'd like another please. ;^)

The appearance is a rusty yet hazy amber red body that leaves a thick, foamy, off white one finger head that lasts for a good two minutes. No carbonation is seen rising. Great amounts of lacing is left all over. The aroma has pine up front with a superb combination of citrus and hops in the background. Some light maltiness does come out slightly. The taste has all of the noted smells combined really nicely. Its fairly easy on the palate with nothing harsh on the tongue and a generally all around good feel. overall, this is an awesome blend of an IPA and a red ale.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but should be pretty fresh. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy ruby copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of tangerine, orange zest, lemon zest, grapefruit, floral, grass, light pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, and floral/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of tangerine, lemon zest, orange zest, grapefruit, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toast, toffee, biscuit, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of hop and malt flavors; with crisp and quite balanced malt/hops with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a lightly creamy, crisp, and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent red IPA. All around great balance and complexity of malt and hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a dark orange amber with thick, fluffy head. Aroma is perfect balance of malt and hops. Taste is smooth, with just some spicy bitterness on the tail end. Beauty of a beer, delicious!
