Old Ale Brewed with Molasses and Oak Aged

Think classic seafaring ports, local pubs and weathered old fishermen. This old ale is brewed with molasses and an insane focus on the malt bill, then oak-aged. The result is a rich, malty delight that’s deceptively smooth and drinkable.

Bottle from Beer Republic. Aroma is barley malt, caramel, toffee, lots of wood, vanilla, sweet grains, alcohol, bourbon, butterscotch, marzipan. Flavour is sweet and moderate bitter with some booze. Body is medium to full. Quite heavy on the sweet barley malt and booze, Bourbon with toffee, vanilla and thick oak. I get why this is popular but it's a bit too much for me.

The aromas are dark malt, raisins, dates with a little molasses. Flavors are very much like nose, bittersweet, nicely melded together with a touch metallic in the finish. Good body and carbonation. A little too much of the dark ripe fruits with molasses for my personal taste but very well-made beer.

355 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 9.8%. 50 IBU. Cloudy brown colour, low beige head of poor retention. Sweetish malty aroma, notes of caramel and oak, hints of dark dried fruits and alcohol. Not as sweet flavour as I feared, malty and oaky, caramel and dried figs, well balanced with the hops, a nice bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Would buy again.

Pours a clear amber with a creme head. Aroma of alcohol and grain. Taste is heavily accented by herbal influences and has heavy juniper notes. Palate has more of the juniper on the nose, along with lemongrass and a very heavy alcoholic note. Its like doing a shot.
